For 7 years I have enjoyed a nice stream of traffic from MSN. Suddenly, 2 days ago that stream stopped dead. If I do a search for site:domain.com I get the usual 38,000+ pages. If I do a search for inurl:domain.com, I always have, and should still, get approximately the same results. However, inurl:domain.com now gives me zero results. Is this just a temporary bug? Has anyone else experienced this problem? and if so what was the outcome? Any enlightenment would be appreciated.
MSN can be like that at times, I wouldn't worry yet, give it a few more days and it probably will come back.
It's been almost two weeks for me now. On one site, I went from getting 3000 per day down to 20 in one day. It has since climbed back up to about 400 per day, but seems to be stuck there now. Here's hoping it will go back to normal soon.
Msn Rolled out an algo update there not too long ago, think it was last weekend, but I'm kinda tired here. Anyway, look for the post "someone farted at msn" to get the idea about it. PS It aint too hard to bounce back from, I'm finding just takes a little investigation on what's ranking higher now.
I thought if you had a site that old you would get much more results from Google than MSN. Any idea why you don't have a good number of visitors form Google and Yahoo? Sorry if the question is a bit unrelated.
I don't know. I would have though MSN would have seen it was crap by now. My new concern is that they're happy with it.
I have the same concern, but seeing how results vary within the same day makes me think they are still working on it. At least I hope they are.
One of my sites fell completely out of MSN for about 4 days, it's now back to where it was originally. Give it time, it will come back if it's a quality site.
That is becoming my concern too. Everyone just needs to use that feedback form to tell them it is crap.
They've pretty much stated last week already that the dust has settled with their update at MSN. They're sticking to this kindof ranking for now. Obviously there will be new updates sometime soon again anyways, they all like to fiddle with their algos, the sickos.
It seems like we go through this with MSN every few months. Half of my rankings disapear for about 2-3 weeks and then they start coming back. Hopefully this will be the case wiith this update.
There was a looong and i do mean looooooong thread on webmasterworld about this. MSNDude (msn rep) responded quite a few times in it about the update, including that they thought the results were better than before the update so they are "sticking with it" so to speak.
I've noticed a similar situation with MSN. The traffic has dropped and I haven't seen much change over the last week. It appears that they are for sure placing more value on keyword stuffing. Spam......it does the body good!
