blogs are great if you can write interesting content that people want to read. Link vital keywords in the blog to your site and promote your blog alongside your site in forum/blog comments

yah social bookmarking is one of the better, or get a following of friends / family that will pass the word on.

Like the expression "I heard from a friend of a friend"

I find it revealing when you think you have all the answers until someone actually asks the question. Then you have to stop and think about it.

First, to find related blogs, go to http://www.reallinkfinder.com/. It's a great little software and it's free.

When it comes to cheap (free) advertising, the best ways are good SEO and establishing yourself as an expert, someone that people go to for answers. Fortunately, you can do both at the same time.

As has already been mentioned, article marketing, blog/forum posts, social networking, etc. are good ways to establish credability and create backlinks to your site.

From what I understand, you are selling physical products and I have always found that writing content for these is challenging. I mean, what can you say about a potato peeler other than it peels potatos?

In this case, you could write tips on all the great things you can do in the kitchen and how your potato peeler makes things so much easier. Maybe you could give away a free report to build a list.

If I'm confusing anyone with my potato peeler example, I just made this up to get the point across.

In other words, take the time to do the grunt work and build a lasting relationship with your customers. If you in a hurry to make some money, then PPC is probably your best bet. But don't dive headfirst into PPC until you know what you are doing. You could lose your shirt in a heartbeat. There are plenty of books and courses that teach you.

I respect your opinion, but that is a pretty lame answer. Yes, seo is the best long term solution, but it's not the only one.

Here are some ideas that are either free or inexpensive that typically get good results:
    • Craigslist
    • Backpage
    • Kijiji
    • submit to free directories
    • pay small fee to have someone use a link to your site in their signature
    • write an article that is relevant to your business and have on of DP's article submission services submit it to article directories
    • create blog relevant to your site and optimize it so it draws free traffic
    • create banner ad and advertise on high traffic forums or sites relevant to your site - there are some inexpensive options in the services section here on DP
Hopefully some or all of these will help...

You best, most profitable form of marketing is word of mouth. Provide a great product and/or service. Tell all your family and friends. Have them get the word out.

For many companies, the next best form of marketing is a well run PR campaign. Unfortunately, most PR is done horribly. But when properly run, it can be a huge part of your mix.

Next up is search marketing, both paid and natural. They should be coordinated and run concurrently.

Hello! I'm still new to internet marketing, but one piece of advice that transcends all types of marketing is word-of-mouth. Luckily, with online social networks and blogs, this can be achieved so much quicker.

I've been ok at achieving spikes of traffic, but with my product/service, it's more of: you come, get what you need, then get out. The heavy social networks like MySpace and Facebook I don't think will work for me (if you have any input on this, or other suggestions for my services, please let me know). The linking sites (YouTube, Squidoo, Digg, StumbleUpon, etc.) are more applicable.

Experiment with the free avenues of marketing--it can't hurt and it only takes time (no money, but time is money, ah! whatever).

I'm on this forum to find out where I should pay for advertising:), so thank you for asking this question.

    Good Luck!

yea i would agree with the forum, video and social marketing. these may not be the easiest way to get some traffic but it doesn't cost a thing so that is a definite plus. otherwise i would suggest ad words and contacting other sites to ask them to post your ad on there.

Free is good, but it has its ups and downs. The big "down" is it can be over saturated and then you lose quality of traffic or so many people do it, what ever is being submitted gets buried.

There are a lot of methods that you can use. You can write press releases, you can write articles, post to related forums on your topic or niche. I can think of two women who have cornered the market on "getting your name out there", and they are both wonderful.

Check out the marketing methods used by Paula Neal Mooney (paulamooney.blogspot.com), and Jennifer Ledbetter of (PotPieGirl.com). They both have blogs and if you look at the backlinks that they have, they are also considered to be 21st century marketing geniuses. ;)

    Good luck!
