do you mean the search by google on your site or are you talking about adsense ads?

 

The TOS says you can not modify Google's code in any way. So technically, they COULD ban you for it.

However, someone would have to notice it, report it and then Google may warn or outright ban you. Its hard to say.

 

I think the best thing to do is give us your URL so we can check it out. Changing the background colour is permitted.

google allow you to change the color, when you step by step general search code, it's time you can change the code.
