Are there any legal issues if I make a lyric website? Can a Music Company sue me for having their lyrics on my site?

Not as long as you dont post their songs in audio format as in you can hear them.

Lyrics are copyrighted and if you create a web site with lyrics without the permission of the copyright holders you are doing something illegal. Will there be legal action taken against you? It's a gamble. Maybe you'll get a cease & desist notice, maybe you'll be sued, or maybe you won't be noticed.

That is not at all true. Someone owns the rights to the lyrics just like someone owns the rights to the audio recordings.

lyrics are copyrighted. just do a google search for lyrics. How many ads do you see? Why do you think that is?

If Lyrics was copyrighted, then lyrics.com should never be able to run Google Adsense, as it is againt Google TOS to put ads on copyrighted contents. lyrics.com has over 1.7 million traffic per month.

I think that lyrics.com has false whois info like most lyrics do

Here is an example of how legal battles can get you in trouble for music sites. They have been forced to shut down for 2 years now
