Choosing a web host - GoDaddy or private?

[not sure if this is the best section, but didn't want to post in BST hosting section]

Assuming I have the option of getting hosting via GoDaddy, or hosting via a members web site off of here, which is better to go with? Comparing the two at the same price, relatively cheap. The hosting would be for 3-5 niche web sites to start, pretty basic I guess.

    Any opinions?

You would definitely have to consider Godaddy, just because of customer support. Two hosting companies may provide the same service at the same price, but that doesn't mean they have the same amount of skilled tech backing it up.

    Just my 2 cents

For static sites GD is fine. If you plans to use scripts or DBs you should look elsewhere.

No matter where you look, keep in mind " if it sounds to good to be true" it most likely is.

GoDaddy is horrible if your going to go with affiliate marketing.

Well it's just for article based web site mostly. An example would be: http://www.acneinformation.org/ only a lot better designed.

So a basic template, about 20-50 articles on the web site, and that's about it.

So I figure it wouldn't take a really strong host, but does the host have to be capable of a lot of traffic?

At first it's one site, but after a month or so, I could see it up to 3 or 5 sites in total.

My personal experience with Godaddy was bad but the scammers are worst anyway.

if it is just niche sites, then you don't need much as long as you know enough to run a website

It depends if you have domain name there. The old saying is "you don' shit where you eat." Never ever host your domain where you have your hosting.

If there is ever a problem and they freeze your hosting account, they will also freeze the domain. At least if you have hosting separate and your hosting account gets froze, you can redirect your domain to a new host and upload a back up.

I would check around for a different hosting company that just sells hosting.

I would always go for the best ones. No cheap stuff. I have suffered in the past. Go for godddy or bluehost or some renowned web hosting companies. At least there are dedicated people and a working land line no to call for support. my 2 cents.

Reliable support is crucial which can be possible if you host with a professional and stable hosting company.

im using godaddy for windows hosting and hostgator for linux hosting, no problems as such so far on any :)

you can always find cheap deals over here.. even like $6 for a year for a unlimited site hosting, but not sure about support service
