Hi all. I've noticed how some posts from Digital Point forums rank #1 on Google very quickly for a short time and then slowly go down. Sometimes they don't even show the cache link at first. Could somebody explain me how this happens and why? I would like to know about the dynamics of the SERPs.
Google have an eye on the front and top subpages of DP , when thread go down to the next page then it's more likely to drop google ranking .
It's Google's attempt at trying to keep recent events and info easily accessible. For example, if I have a problem with a laptop model running Vista and iTunes making my music skip and chop from time to time, I need relevant results in my search to fix it. If I search for Vista, laptop model, iTunes, and skipping, even a search result from a forum discussing it 3-4 months ago could be irrelevant due to a new version of iTunes released. Not a great example I know, but should make sense with how I see what they're trying to do. I see this a lot with one of my forums I own notebookforums.com In some cases that info flows a lot on topic it may only show for days or weeks vs. months. This happens with Craigslist and Ebay as well, new listings show up high for a short time, but they don't want old ads showing in their serps or it becomes cluttered with expired stuff.
I think you are right when you say it's Google's attempt to try to keep recent events and info easily accessible. In this case, that makes it relevant. I wonder how they make it so fast, maybe parallel computing is the answer.
Well, the Googlebots are always crawling here, so they know the content is updated very frequently, and therefore watch out for that.
No Googlebot doesn't crawl here all that much, a lot of the time there is no Googlebots online. How it gets in the SERP's so fast is because of this
Yes, If the thread is in top position, rank also in top and viceversa. This happens because of no of visitors on thread.
Depands on the term you searched which is usually not such high competition and It is like that since google trust this forum, so google waits for real human content - and google make it on top since it is relevant, after time to time there is another content which is more relevant and more new
I think DP is already getting good catches from google, some of DP posts still sustain good ranking, if you're participating in a quite interesting and useful thread just digg it or refer them to others, it will help you too.
