Probably pretty pathetic compared to anything the rest of you do... I have 2 days a week that I can go. So one day is upper body, the other day is lower body and I do abs both days. If I ever do get a chance to work in an extra day, that day is all cardio. As far as the specific exercises, that's all going to change. I am starting at a new gym next week so I'll be working with a new trainer and I am sure they will be switching some stuff around. At my old gym I use plate loaded machines by HammerStrength. You can see some of their products here if you don't know what I am talking about... The new gym has different machines.
Welp, I still give ya a lot of props . Working out 2 days a week is better than two days a year! lol. Takes a lot of initiative to take the time to go exercise, especially with hectic schedules people have to deal with these days. Btw, which gym are you going to?
Just some local independent ones. We don't have any brand name gyms around here... You suddenly turned green (in your avatar). Is that your Incredible Hulk Halloween costume?
lol oh no, no costume. Old picture from a couple years ago during which I only had around 7% bodyfat. It's just the color balance is altered. hehe It also comes in black&white, blue and red. X]
if you are over 30 is it late to start building muscle without a lot of prior bodybuilding routines? Can someone recommend a routine to start with if you are older than 35?
I was at the gym today and the trainer there suggested that I try "pyramiding"... I get the basic idea of what she was saying. Instead of doing 8/8/8 of heavy reps do 10/8/6 with increasing weight each time. So is that a faster way to build strength?
What exercise? For bench, I just do 100's, you pretty much just bench the bar, and work your way up to 100 reps in one set. It can help your max out a lot. I have noticed an increase in my max compared to the normal 5lbs here and there since I have started doing this.
100 reps!?!?! With a 45lb bar?? I thought low wieght/high reps was for weight loss, and low reps/high weight was for strength/mass building? Another question. Is there a difference between a bench press and a chest press?
Just do some research about it, but I think it's one of those things that you got to do almost daily. You don't know what a bench press is? There is a really informative article on the bodybuilding.com supersite but I can't find it right now. Here is a similar idea: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online...mance_bodybuilding/100_reps_to_bigger_muscles Although I just use it for my bench (to improve max) - 45lbs is not a lot for 100 reps, but if you can't do that, even go 50 50, 25 25 25 25, whatever you can do but do as many per set as possible.
Yeah, I know what a bench press is. And I know what a chest press is. I'm just not sure if there is a difference between them.
IMHO an absolutely horrible method for 'increasing your max' for endurance training or to deload on lighter weights and or to try to break through a plateau here and there it might be ok. Definitely not for a standard w/o
Of course, and I'm just using it for a few months to boost my max in one particular exercise - bench press. However, I am trying to figure out a way to incorporate it into cutting period as well some how so I dont just cut but actually build my max at the same time.
Nutrition is one of the key items if you want to 'cut' yet build at the same time Well of course it's key any time
Flat bench press is actually considered a horrible exercise by many in the body building community. Incline, Decline or dumb bell are far better. Whenever you use machines you don't use your support muscles such as you would in a free weight movement.
I am not a complete idiot to working out GRIM... I do all the basics, incline and decline included. Free weights of course, butterfly, etc... I already know machines are crap in comparison to free weights and they can hurt your joints really badly, had a bad experience years ago from it - I believe it's cause of the cables that it is caused, either way, I messed up my elbow permanently from using machines and switching back to free weights.
My bad, getting late...been pushing off going to sleep for hours. Yes, sinewy muscles, get benching for that guys...
