Hello every one! Please have a look at my web directory and suggest any improvements that u might think would make the directory more user friendly and attractive.. The Directory is: http://www.csgenius.com Thanks in advance Cheers
Your submit page says that featured listings have 5 extra deep links. However, the submit form does not have fields for them...
i liked the design. as your directory is pretty new, you might consider not charging for a listing with reciprocal. in fact i would suggest you offer free non reciprocal listings for a certain period. you do that to start getting some traffic and content/listings.
You're joking. The design and logo are nothing short of terrible. They break almost every web design practice out there. It's sounds awfully rude but your directory is nothing special. A domain name that means nothing, awful template, empty categories, category dump. Sorry...
aren't you a little harsh on him? instead of criticizing and saying how crappy it is, you could give some tips...
Link on your footer is broken. The colors are not good. Template has broken HTML check w3c validator. http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=h...(detect+automatically)&doctype=Inline&group=0 The CS Genius logo looks out of place and it would be good if it could 'gel' better with the surrounding space. Deep links are not working. You have three icons on top and only two have hyperlinks. You have approved 4 links and 2 of them don't even have descriptions. I think you can work on those areas.
I won't comment any further than said, as i am sure they are all valid points in their own ways. But what i can say is i see many projects where people try and be perfect from day one, this in general wastes so much time it is not funny. So what you have done so is fine, now take on board what others have said, and again do not try and improve everything at once, instead micro manage your upgrades, just pick one section you can improve on, upgrade, then continue with another section. The term I use for this is mud mapping, where i throw it out there so i can see what it looks like then over days, weeks, months will continually adjust the mud map until we have a mona lisa ( or that theory ) Any site would also be a continual evolution of improvement as tech / times change so don't be to stressed or worried by it.
He asked for feedback so I gave it. There is an opposite to bad points. if I tell him the design is bad, the advice is therefore to get good design. What is the opposite to a copied category structure? A unique one. What is the opposite to empty categories?....
It seems you have good traffic... I would probably work on content.. Try posting a couple of articles here and there...
