GOP 2012 presidential candidate

Here are the candidates and the advantages and disadvanteges of each.

Sarah Palin

Advantages
*She run as Vice President.

Disadvantages
* Not very bright, mocked as a result
* Woman

Mitt Romney
* Experienced and wealthy businessman so supposedly knows the economy, but everyone thought Ala Greenspan knew the economy, but in fact, made glaring errors

* Unlikely to appeal to conservative base because of his beliefs (Mormon)

Bobby Jindal
* Probably the most intelligent politician in all of America
* Has achieved so much at what is relatively tender age of 37 (in political circles)
* Very much on the right, will appeal to strong coservatives
* Could be come the youngest president at 40 (his age in 2012)

* Of South Asian origin
*Perhaps too far on the right. This could be a advantage as well as a disadvantage

I don't see any other potential candidate as of now

 

I would like to see Huckabee give it a go again. I would rather have Palin or Huckabee over Romney.

 

The GOP is not going to isolate our liberty candidate in 2012 I'll tell you that right now.

 

The GOP has learned nothing. I've kept up the disgusting work of reading Republican forums and they're basically saying anyone who doesn't like Palin is a fake conservative. If she is the future of the party, well then the party has no future.

Some time after Obama declares the next war, there might be a shake-up on the left that libertarians can unite with. If Obama doesn't screw up, well there's just no hope for the R.

 

Anyone else REALLY REALLY hope Sarah Palin tries to run in 2012?

If not for anything but to see her go up against Romney, Huackabee, and Capt 9/11 Guilianni for the party nomination. The hilarity would ensue.

 

Ya know, Every time i heard the suggestion that palin could run in 2012 i assumed it was a joke. Is it actually supposed to be taken as a serious possibility?

I'm not being sarcastic with this question, it's just palins very existence has blurred the lines between parody and reality to the point where i don't know what's going on.

 

Yes, there are actually people who think Palin is a great candidate and that she represents the future of the Republican party. These are mostly the same people that still support Bush.

 

I'd mirror Korr, Stox. Sadly, yes, some do take her seriously. I do think her 15 minutes has come, though, so that even by 2012, whatever remnant is left of the rightist-religious elements of the GOP that would support her as their voice, she will not make it past the most preliminary of preliminary stages.

I agree with Korr, and others: until the GOP returns to its core principles - and I would say this precedes Reagan's budget-busting fiscal policy - it will forever be on an ideological implode. True conservatism, and true Liberalism, is the fight to be had; not this intrusion of "values" in daily private life that has become the hallmark of GOP platforms over the last several cycles.

 

Where's Rob Jones? I am sure he is giving it a go.

 

I have a feeling that Paul Ryan is looking at making a bid in the future. If not 2012, then 2016, I would imagine.

 

I like Jeb Bush and Bobby Jindal. The Republicans have done well with actors -- Chuck Norris or Tom Selleck?

 

I doubt anyone will want another Bush. Paul Ryan is the best bet in my eyes given his true record of reform, reduced spending and the continual work he has done to keep taxes low,which is what KEEPS jobs from going over seas.

 

What about that new rising star you guys have. Newly elected and youngest congressman (27) Aaron Schock.

I saw him on MSNBC last night. Pretty bright kid and seems to understand ho things work VERY well. I forget his name though....

 

The future of the Republican party is going to be in pushing forward a younger more sensible generation that is not part of the entitlement crowd and wants the real, root values of the Republican party - a more conservative, traditional set of fiscal views, with a equally balanced set of socially liberal views.

There are more people like him out there.

 

I agree with Mia here. I have long thought this is a necessary move for the GOP - it must divest itself of what David Brooks called its "cancer," the deliberate eschewal of ideas, and the culture of religious intolerance and evangelical politicization.

I am glad to have something to agree with Mia on.

 

Can we(right) PLEASE have a candidate who isn't a religious nutter? PLEASE? Just one?

Can someone explain to me why being a woman is a disadvantage? For the people that jump on every racial issue brought up in here, I thought someone would have asked this before me....
