Can you provide me with anymore details on which mods you use within wordpress to help with re-directing old static links. Do you use all 301 redirects for this? Is there a wordpress mod to make this easier. I am using the latest 2.6.3 wordpress version.
-Tmnoonan Is there a forum? Is the content only unique content generated by you? Yes there is a forum, PHPBB forum with almost 5K registered users on it at this point. There is not that much activity going on the forums but it is starting to get indexed and just provides more traffic. The content is unique content generated from scratch by myself. What did you do in terms of off-site SEO? Did you get a bunch of backlinks fast? Did you pay for services? I followed standard procedures of first building the quality site, than submitting it to every major search engine and directory. I looked for only PageRank 5+ directories when submitting my site and still have not been accept by DMOZ which will hopefully happen. I didn't get a bunch of backlinks fast nor did I pay for any services. I probably have about 80-90 backlinks. To first help build the traffic to the site before even being indexed by google I started by posting information on wikipedia entries and Yahoo Answers. (not spamming but providing the information I wrote and simply linking back to my site as the resource) These got me a lot of direct traffic and probably helped get my page indexed faster. Also, does the traffic mainly come from google? Social bookmarks? etc? Yes, The majority of my traffic comes from google. Roughly 53%. I Dugg and Stumbled my main posts at first but have not used those tools on any newer articles since I seem to get indexed within a few days on new pages. 28% of my traffic comes from direct traffic meaning, they literally typed in my URL. This is due to so many returning visitors on my site and entires on yahoo answers etc. that were not technically hyperlinks and visitors had to type in themselves. What tools did you use to find the domain name/research the niche? The niche is something I was personally interested in and noticed a couple million people were into as well. There were literally no major sites covering it and I felt like I could fill that role. Most of the domain name choosing was based on my personal preference and I used the actual keywords in my domain rather than a web2.0 catchy name. For example my domain could be something like: SoccerTraining.com if my site were on soccer training and tips.
Congrats mate, these kind of stories help and gives inspirations to those which are new in the business. Keep it up.
Sure - I use this : http://www.askapache.com/seo/404-google-wordpress-plugin.html it's for 404 error pages, keeps the original URL also.
Hey man- Thanks for responding to all my questions! Seems like you did a really good job. I have found too that the niche is very important. It is a lot easier to have success (like you did) with a niche that you are personally interested in and there isn't a whole lot of competition out there. It was easy for me to create a dominant motorized bicycle site, and a lot more difficult to even create a decent mortgage/loan site.
Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! -p.onlinemoney4u I listed a few techniques when responding to Tmnoonan's questions. If you are looking for more detail into a specific topic let me know
-kallell not exactly every day. but let's just say the daily average of absolute uniques has gone up every week since the start. I am now around 6K per day when one month ago I was at 2K per day.
Is there an edit limit on DP posts? I am trying to make an edit to the original posts and the Edit function has escaped me now.
Ha that is ultimately my dream but its kind of interesting. Right now I work full-time 8-5 at a computer with 3x 20" monitors and a lot of time to actually work on my site inbetween tasks. So it's like I am getting paid to SEO for myself? lol. Maybe if I can successfully expand my empire and duplicate the site properly I will have enough revenue coming in to just walk out eventually.
I kind of have a similar setup. I work as a system admin/analyst and build my site whenever i get free time. You use IMs at work at all?
