I'm new to blogging and these days i'm trying to increase the amount of traffic get in to my site. But i'm bit confused with the words 'dofollow' and 'nofollow'. Can anyone explain me what are those two words all about....
Hello, rel="nofollow" it's a parameter added to the A (anchor) HTML tag that tells to search engines that the owner of the site doesn't trust the linked page, even though he's linking to it. Other that, or it tells to search engines that he doesn't want to allow that the pagerank of his website to flow to the linked site. Dofollow (as far as I know doesn't even exist), it's the absence of "nofollow", thus means a regular link. However, nofollow as far as I know doesn't tell the search engines not to go and index that page. Even more, some search engines might even disregard that parameter. Hope this helps
Here's some examples of dofollow blogs http://www.janscottphotography.com/blog/?p=216 http://blog.epicedits.com/2007/03/22/photography-business-find-a-photo-gallery/ http://www.janscottphotography.com/blog/?p=216 http://acid42.bluechronicles.net/blog/?p=789
Dofollow links tells the search engine to crawl a certain link which can help increase your SERP ranking.
The matter of do follow and no follow links is only related to the matter of PR and no followed links are counted as backlinks but will not pass PR values.
I know the comment parts of blogs are nofollow and it means nothing for page rank. If you think to increase the pr value of your current site, place your links into the main content in your blogs.
dofollow links mean a link is placed pointing to your website with some anchor text. se's like these as they can use them to judge how much authority your website has. I.e. if alot of government websites, and large media organisations are linking to your website, you must have an important site, thus your page rank increases! well ... in theory
