Mine is under a minute. I don't believe your computer could boot to the desktop all ready to go in 10 seconds.
My desktop takes FKN ages to boot. I turn it on in the morning, then go and make a cup of coffee. I'm talking 1 - 2 mins. I've got lots of USB crap plugged into it, and a handful of startup apps (Skype, Trillian, Sygate, SecondCopy etc...) - I'm sure that's what is slowing it down. It doesn't really worry me though, if I want to check my email or whatever in a hurry when I wake up, I use my PDA from bed, then go back to sleepzzz EDIT - I'm on XP SP2. My 1040STE boots in seconds!
Never been a fan of VISTA and would consider upgrading to Windows 7 from XP once I update my machine. A good way to ensure your computer always stays crisp during boot sequence is to ensure you partition your hard drive and have only your critical devices running on your primary drive, OS, drivers etc. Then make another partition for downloads, software installations and so on. Is always a good idea to keep your OS clutter free which means regularly cleaning and maintaining the registry hive. You'll be surprised how well your machine will work with only a few hours maintenance each month.
Startup in 10 seconds? Wow, mine has never been that quick... My computer at work can boot into windows in about 10 seconds, but then has to load all the crap on it, which takes about 30 seconds. My computer at home takes about 1-2 minutes to start up fully - but patience is a virtue!
