Confessions of a Negro

Ok. I have to confess something. Old white men in power scare me. It sounds racist but they all look to same to me.... wrinkled, grey, and powerful. Growing up in 70s racist N. Louisiana, I had a right to be scared. How many of you were ever chased by the clan? How many of you were told you weren't good enough by whites because your skin wasn't pale (I used to be "high yeller" but not high enough I guess). I was. From the stealing of this country from the Native Americans (who by the way, are actually descendents of Asian Mongols for those of you who don't know), this country has been run by someone who didn't look like me and who would as sure enough not even spit on me to put me out if I were on fire. That representation of the US is not what the US is anymore. Minorities of all nationalities are here to stay. Even racist Louisiana has an Indian as it's governor. Now, in office, we have someone that I feel that I can personally relate to. He's not a nigger like Jessie Jackson would've been (Yes, I said nigger!) but someone that I have common interests with.... mostly the same views (except for the Pro-choice thing and bringing the troops back and offshoring jobs), intellectual (even though is IQ is reportedly only 130), and wants to make a good life for all people...and not just those who supposedly represent what this country is and how we live. So, yes, I wanted Obama in office and I'm glad he's there!

So you only like people similar to you?

I see where you are coming from, but not all old white men are alike.

You're right and wrong. I should've named this "Confessions of a Perceived Negro" and the whites called me nigger and not negro.

Well, Just like how you feel cut off being black, some of us being Muslims feel cut off. Here in India, We are highly targeted by hardcore groups who are against Muslims. There were occasions when i had to run off with my family and protect them just like how you described. And yet they call our country as "secular". We go and report to police, and police replies "go to pakistan"!

So you see, it is sick concept of segregating people based on religion, region, color etc. And many are catching up with this disease. In this disease people forget that the other person is also a human just like him!

There are groups of Christians being beat and killed in India right now as well.

One thing I love about this country is our freedom of and from religion. The government isn't suppose to tell me what I have to believe.

which part of India are you from??Most probably Gujarat?? But why call the entire country a sick place??

I strongly condem your views being an Indian you should be ashamed read Dr.AP.J Abdul kalam's book you will know how lucky we are !!

Just for a fact Our prime minister is a Sikh, our former president was Muslim, Our lok sabha speaker is a Hindu and you call this country non-secular?? I dont know what else people expect??

What people in America have gone through is not comparable to the religious disharmony in India.Name one country where this can happen?? Other than India.

    You should be proud

    Yes I am blacorican
No it's more of a play on how some people don't seem to realize racist the WORLD is. It's not just America. In Puerto Rico and other native latino countries and territories they refer to black puerto ricans as Los Negros. I also have a thing for plurals. It's like I'm saying I'm "the negro problem".

I used to call myself LEGION :)

What should I call my kids, they are a mix of Puerto Rican(African descent), Mexican, American Indian, and a spread of european-- my dad was adopted by a Portuguese which follow the last name.

I think this new race should be called - Confusion - since mutt is already taken by the dogs.

I like confusion better than mutt. Mutt sounds too white trashy.

I'm half of something, which makes me 100% of that by todays PC standard One Drop Rule.

I was gonna say confused but you beat me to it :D

But why can't they just say human? After all there is no such thing as race outside the human race. Only ethnicity.

Actually if you read that link I posted a while back it shows how the One Drop Rule is actually a very old tactic in the U.S. South that codified and strengthened segregation and the disfranchisement of most blacks and many poor whites since 1890.

Thats why I can laugh about it. We are all humans, some people will choose to hate my kids depending on how they are viewed or what time of the year it is for some of us who lose our color during the long winters here in Oregon.

If I was racists I would have a hard time figuring out which race to hate, maybe my wife and kids won't mind if I pick their flavor.

I have a Dominican friend who only likes chocolate - dark chocolate.

And I am glad you did, because explains a lot of what I've been questioning in terms of the continual need to separate people by race for the sake of appeasing past guilt.

The reality is, most people just don't give a shit. My kid has black friends, white friends, hispanic friends, even a kid for Poland. To him, they are "Marco", "Antoni", "Nicole", or "my friends".

They are not, my black friend, my mexican friend, my polish friend.

My past comments and observations are meant to ask one question. Why are we seeking to separate/segregate human beings based on race again? Its a learned behavior. If it was not, then my kid would do the same. He, like I, do not see race.

Look, we all like to cling to our identities, and for many of us this is our race, heritage, or nationality. Its nice to have a sense of meaning, and for many of us as humans that sense of meaning is not in who we are, but where we come from. I have no problem with pride in where we come from. But as to who we are? In God's eyes, in the eyes of our own Constitution and Egalitarianist views, we are all the same.

Same here. I'd have a hard time choosing given the diverse make up of my background and family. Its pretty presumptuous of some here to make such claims to the contrary when ignorant to the reality of our own heritage, race, and nationality, as well as those in our respective families.

More often than not, its the pot that's calling the kettle black. ;)
