Any ideas on what we should do with this specific directory?

So we own a directory call http://www.findabeautysalon.com and I say that we've done a pretty darn good job of marketing it. Its actually the directory of the company I work for. I'm actually new here.

Basically, my question is, what would be more features that should definitely be added to increase revenue. If you owned this site, how would you go about working with it. I'm very interested to see if the ideas I had in mind were great ideas i.e. Affiliate programs, paid featured listings in the cities, polls and surveys.

What would be a good way to increase revenue from this site?

The first thing I would do with this site to be honest is turn the navigation system on it's head.

You really need to look at the top perfoming sites in your category and learn to produce websites like theirs.

New technologies that I am working with produce very compelling sites.

You want an animated navigation bar, you want the website to be totally-branded so it becomes an experience for the visitor.

Everything from the colours of your site down to the content of the articles needs to be written just for your target audience.

Personally I would do the website without any advertising on it to begin with until you build up a good number of daily visitors - 300 or more per day is a good start.

Add feedback forms and even give your phone number and email address to start a conversation with your visitors.

Find out what they want and deliver it.

    O.k here is my advice

    1. too many adsense units 1 or 2 the most
    2. Too much duplicate content
    3. too much stuff around your site that makes any visitors have headache and don't know where to go

Create a "page" for each category. Right now you go to any catogory and seems that you are in the same category you just left.

But overall your site is not that bad and your doing well with some keywords/cities.

I won't look twice at a directory with ANY adsense - Just personally think it devalues it

You know winsoar, its funny that a lot of the ideas you just gave me were ones I presented. There could be soooo much more revenue coming to it and this site isn't being used to its full potential. Its already in a high ranking, I think we just need more traffic and usability now.

Thanks, mywebsearch, I've never actually browsed the site in the mindset of a viewer. It does look a little too crowded.

I think there's way too many adsense ads places in the inside pages... Also, the format of the adsense ad seems a bit awkward.. Have you looked into a adsense horizontal ad placement?... It might look better.. Other than that you seem to have a good number of listings.. Might want to add a few articles and quality content as well..
