Barack Obama's campaign was a great display of solid marketing fundamentals. He was able to effectively sell himself not only to those people who already like him but also those who are still undecided. Aside from that, he was able to use technology to his advantage as seen on his internet campaigns as well as his campaigns on mobile phones. No wonder he won by a landslide. Here are my thoughts on the marketing lessons from the Obama campaign: The Barack Obama Guide to Winning a Campaign. How about you? What effective marketing techniques did you see from Barack Obama's successful campaign?
Yup, As I am all ways saying, Marketing made it a.. It all starts and end within a good or bad marketing, John had bad marketing - simple as that.
Yes, it was a brilliant marketing campaign. He managed to keep on message extremely well. He kept talking about change. And it was a good appealing message to put out there. Clearly, a lot of people want a change of direction. And he made a virtue of being vague about it. He didn't give too many details on how he would initiate change. So he won over a lot of new supporters who have imprinted their own expectations upon him. So, inevitably, he will disappoint a lot of people when they realise the change they expect from him won't come. So, yes, he ran a brilliant marketing. But I'm not sure that the product is so great. Will be interesting to see what happens.
I'm not entirely sure it was all down to bad marketing, Obama was arriving on the scene off the back of a terrible peroid for the repulican party, Bush's mistakes paved the way to success for Obama. Also Through Obama's public speaking ability, he managed to capture interest fom over the world (I am from th U.K). This charismatic approach combined with specific marketing was also a major factor in his success.
copper: my bad, I was referring to the electoral votes, not popular votes. if we base it on popular votes, it was indeed close percentage-wise. mattrix: nice point. i agree about posing a promise and not delivering. your customers will make you pay for that.
he was not only has a marketing plan but he was marketing a very good product new, different specs and a very attractive carisma
I agree. McCain's ads were terrible and seldom on point. The Republicans, not only McCain campaign but for the past 8 years, haven't been very good at communicating with the masses. If you're unable to explain as issue so that the average "Joe or Jill" can understand it and relate it to their day to day lives, you can't win. The average "Joes and Jills" are the ones going to work every day, raising kids, worrying about expenses like groceries, gasoline, appliance & car repairs. If you own 3 or 4 houses, etc. it's hard to relate!
Obama utilized internet marketing to raise millions upon millions as well as to get his word out. His campaign utilized bloggers while McCain's shut them out because they didnt consider them important at all and it came back to hurt them. I think part of it comes down to McCain running a terrible campaign to as well as being in the same party as Bush who isn't very popular. But either way Obama won in a landslide victory with a large part going to the campaign utilizing web marketing from SMS and email to just utlizing bloggers and social networks.
It may well be that the only good thing to come out of the Bush presidency was that America elected it's first black president. Now maybe we can finally put racism and sexism behind us. Flame away.
