Interview with Rick Latona - Domainer Of The Year

After my interview with Rick Schwartz someone asked me to interview Rick Latona. Well, I have come through again. I have been asking Rick for months to do an interview, I must have caught him on a good day last week because he finally agreed.

Besides being the 2008 Domainer Of The Year, Rick is the LARGEST domain broker in the world and most recently has been added to the TRAFFIC auction events. In his first TRAFFIC auction which was held in Brooklyn NY only two months ago Rick’s auction brought in roughly $700,000. We will find out very soon if he can top that, next TRAFFIC event is in two weeks which will be hosted in Australia.

Good job on your interview - well done!

 

Very nice interview. I was surprised he let you ask him some questions.

 

I thought it was a good interview. Rick quietly talks about a macrotrend that is happening in the domain space. That macrotrend is the move from traditional domain parking to content-rich mini websites.

 

"I can give you a clue though, they are all .com names or ccTLD names."

What is a ccTLD name?

 

ccTLD is a country code TLD..basically TLD's like co.uk, .us, .au, .cn, .in etc etc

Who gave him the title best domainer of the year? Broker, maybe but domainer I don't think so~~

 

A broker is a person that acts a middle man in negotiations. Rick Latona OWNS the domains he sells. That makes him a domainer.

 

exactly, he buys, develops and sell, a true blue collar domainer

 

my little secret, that's what makes me a good journalist

he brokers domains as well. but in the interview he stated he hand registered 4,000 names within the last 30 days. he does both which makes sense. you are always going to have a client that does not want what you have.
