Releasing a free ebook via ClickBank

Hey all, I just had an interesting idea that I thought I might give a shot. While I do have products for sale on ClickBank now, I figured that creating a giveaway ebook would be a good way for me to gain opt-in subscribers etc for a few of my other websites and to act as bonuses for some products.

That part isn't interesting, what I was thinking is that I might start a marketing campaign by contacting CB product owners and offering to allow them to stick my ebook in their bonus package for free, and in the resources section I have affiliate links, etc. so that I make money and they get an extra "johnson box" to stick on their sales page.

How do you guys think this will play out assuming I target product owners within my niche?

You won't make any serious money by giving out your guide for free with affiliate links at the end....

    Personal experience.

i disagree. this marketing strategy has been used for ages and it does work. marketing a free guide in forum signatures and joint ventures with related products are two different things.
if your book is actually good and useful you will build some credibility and your next paid product will be much easier to sell to your list.

EDIT: i'm not sure if clickbank allows you to use their platform for something that won't make them any money though

I think this is a great idea and could lead to lots of joint ventures opportunities with product/list owners.

Go for it. You have nothing to loose.

Butof course your product has to be really great to be accepted as a JV partner, mostly with the guru guys, they receive a lot of JV requests like this one, its not that easy, even if you're offering them a plus for their customers.

    well, they do.
if you market your free book the same way as you market any other paid ebook, then they do. since you normally market this kind of stuff to people that either never heard of IM before or are just starting. thats why i mentioned that a joint venture with a similar product is different to having a free ebook in your signature on some IM forum.
other than that if your free book persuades them enough to learn more about the subject then you can easily sell your next product to them.

I am assuming that the product would be a "make money" product.
If so, here is an idea.

First, you don't need it to be a clickbank product to give it away for free. If you want to go that route, you would just click the test box once approved and it would be free.

    - You title the book "Whatever you choose Vol. I".
    - You give the readers good information that they can use to make money.
    - Then you send them tips via email to enhance what you have already taught them.
    - You let them know a few weeks later that you are almost ready with Vol. II
    - You send out an announcement to your list that vol. II is ready and contains even more money making strategies.
    - rinse and repeat

IMO - This method works much better than the links in the book.

Ah yes I think I wasn't clear enough, I am not making it a ClickBank product, I am going to contact product owners and ask if they would be willing to bundle it with the rest of their random bonus materials.

I already have a separate newsletter which has opt-in's driven to it via ebooks and traffic from my blog in which I send out various promotions as well as informations and weekly wrap-up's from my blog.

I was just wondering how effective it would be to also send out the ebook by itself, without gaining the opt-ins, when others are marketing it for me.

Thanks for all your insights so far, a pretty good discussion.

I will suggest you to create a micro niche unique and detailed product and then contact for JV. I had seen many big list owners are happy to offer quality product to their subscribers..

Yeah thats a good idea kinda reminds me of something that Harvey Segal did. He released an ebook called the ultimate super tip and people could download it for free without any opt ins whatsoever.

He monetized it by selling the rights to own a percentage of the profit if somebody buys this same profit license.

But again the content of the ebook itself was very good so to offer something for free and to expect it to go viral it has to be way better than average.
