A lot of guys on this forum offer to manually submit your site to a lot of directories, I wonder if that does you ranking any good. WIll google even take those links in account? I know it depends on pagerank etc, but doesnt it look at a natural progression of links?

Has anyone ever gotten any results from these services?

For many years, we have used directories for links and after review, they are worthless. If you get a link, it is always on a PR0 page or somewhere in the navigation, there is a "nofollow" link.

For me, one on-target links is better than 1000 directories links.

Also, start using your Signature Link feature of the DP forum. <User CP> <Signatures> - Upper left corner of menu. Better links, less work and higher quality.

There are much better uses for your time and money than directory submissions. Each directory links to thousands of websites. So each link counts for very little. The directory submissions may help more with Yahoo and MSN but it is still probably not worth the effort.

I have optimized some "make money online" websites for Yahoo and MSN using nothing but directory submission and those websites are now cranking out a couple hundred a month, Yahoo still is getting millions of searches even if they get less than Google.

Submitting site to directories is still useful in SEO, IMHO. :D Make sure that you submit it to directories that match your website's niche. I have tried to rank a site using only directory submission and on - page optimization.

At one point I used to do directory submission. But I was frustrated with rejections from many. Most of the wanted reciprocal. It takes a lot of time.

For me, submitting to directories is just time waste...I didn't found any use of backlinks from directories in my experience.

    Hello Rockstar,

Directory Submisson is one of the best way of getting free one - way links.

And every one-way link is helpful in getting your keyword a good ranking on search engines though Dir Submission is overshadowed now by social bookmarking but still it possesses an important aspect of Search Engine Optimization.

I gurantee you good rankings if you simply follow the 4 techniques:
    Dir Submisson
    Article Submission
    Social Bookmarking
    Submitting Press - releases

    Regards
    Sara Trooper

There has been a lot of debate on directory submissions recently, ever since Google removed it from its Webmasters guideline. Even if we discounted the value of links that we get from these directories, it would still make some sense to do directory submissions.

If your target audience is likely to visit directories to find you, you have every reason to be there. Increases your likelihood to be found. Visibility is the first thing you seek.

This is a funny conversation in my opinion! Directory links can be very powerful and there are also topical directories that are geared for your specific niche! Don't listen to anybody that tells you that directories are of the past because they don't know what they are talking about!

I think directory links are fine. Even when you submit to 100s of directories, search engines won't index your backlinks immediately.

Only Directory submission is not very effective now. and directories should be proper. lots of directories are not so good. so it is time taking and less useful.

I think directory submissions is ok as long as the directories are related to your content.
