Hi guys, please review www (dot) dogsymptoms (dot) org I've recently purchased it from DP. I'm pretty happy with the purchase so far, but want to know if anyone has suggestions for improvement. The site is a few months old, it gets between 80-140 UV a day, mostly from google. I am making money from adsense, but not as much as I think the site is capable of. Should I try an affiliate instead of adsense? Or any suggestions, ad placement? How does it look in terms of SEO? Thanks!
Hi Topfrog007, the sites layout is OK, something looks off though I cant put my finger on it. Maybe it is the huge image at the top that is throwing it out. That is massive amount of above the fold real estate that is being dedicated to it. I would be thinking about cutting down that space dramtically. Remember the classic format of website layout. [logo] [banner] [splash image] [nav] [content] [footer] I would be inclined to go in for something similar. have a look at dreamjob [dot] com [dot] au to see this kind of layout in action. cheers Andrew
If I was you.... Take the unwanted keywords out of your title, h1, h2, and h3 tags. Only use what keywords you want to target. For example you have DogSymptoms.org in your title and h1 tags. Every single link I use, I always use ALT text. This can help you add keywords that spiders like. Use keyword rich ALT with pictures as well.. Heres yours: <img src="images/pic_4.jpg" width="92" height="175" alt="Pic 4" /> Use this:<img src="images/pic_4.jpg" width="92" height="175" alt="Dog Symptoms" /> All you h1 tags = "Dog Health - Dog Symptoms .org" try making your h1 tags the title of you post. If your post is about Dogs in Heat, you want your title tag to be "Dogs in Heat". Ohhh wait.. We are in the same niche... Scratch everything I just said.
@DreamJob.com.au I'll look into the changes you mentioned. I think I might put up a scaled down version of the main picture/site and see if it appears to have a positive effect on traffic/clicks. I checked out dreamjobs, everything does seem to flow nicer that's for sure. @Greendog Thanks for tips and honesty, especially since you are a competitor! I appreciate your advice, I checked out your site and it looks very nice, good job! For my article pages, how do I rank higher for those keywords? For example the page about illnesses symptoms, www [dot] dogsymptoms [dot] org/dog_illnesses_symptoms.html ... currently ranked 8th. Is there something specific in the code of the page that I should change, or is it an issue with link building etc?
On my search you are ranked 4th.... for dog symptom illness I would: Make my title: "Dog Symptom Illness" (Simple and only the words you need no duplicates) Do the same for your H1 tags. You want these two things to be ONLY your keywords and no duplicates. Also I don't know if it will help much but try to get "Dog Symptom Illness" in the first sentence. I would personally change the format of the URL from: http://www.dogsymptoms.org/dog_illnesses_symptoms.html to http://www.dogsymptoms.org/illnesses.html Just food for thought. I am not big on building links, if you write quality content you are going to get natural links and you will be better off in the long run.
Thanks again for the tips, It's interesting you mention the url change, as I was thinking of changing them. I was just going to change all the underscores to dashes. Why would shortening the URL to just "illnesses" be better than dog_illnesses_symptoms? Also, if I do change the URL, how do I redirect anything pointing to the old URL to go to the new url?
