I have a webhosting plan for my website and when I signed the bandwidth quota was around 250 GB a month but now it is unlimited. I was thinking of wasting some of that since there is not much activity going on right now on the website itself. Any ideas how to waste some bandwidth? btw the webhost is hostgator(if you know of legal ways to waste bandwidth without violating their ToS)
I have a idea.... Install a free proxy script on your hosting and watch youtube videos from that proxy...
It might say unlimited... but they'll suspend your account in case you "really" start to eat up their bandwidth. Unlimited is always a marketing lie...
the best way would be starting a video sharing site or an image hosting site and you will dain GB's of bandwidth in a day.
This is not true at all. An unmetered or unlimited bandwidth line is always possible, granted it's usually not cheap, but it's 100% possible.
I installed a php based proxy script(you visit the page first then you can browse the internet through that page, not very efficient). Anyways I uploaded this file, it is a video of cops stopping and shooting would be robbers. Very intense. Download it and share the link if you wish. I am not using the proxy anymore. It was last night and I hadn't checked their TOS yet. But it is gone now.
If everyone did this (utilized as much bandwidth as physically possible) then hostgator would shut down shortly. You'll ruin it for other hostgator customers if you run a proxy. Focus on getting additional traffic to your website, and filling up your bandwidth quota that way.
Pranab and MegaMania are you two blind? Read before you post. I didn't use the proxy for very long. It is uninstalled and gone anyway. And since they have changed the bandwidth quota to unlimited, I can do this and also I wanted to test the server strenghth. It is paid hosting anyway.
Offer to be a mirror site for major download packages like MySQL, PHP, and other major software platforms. A couple thousand of those per day will do it. If you really want to push it, contact Filefront and tell them you'd be willing to host some of their high traffic downloads...a World of Warcraft patch or two and you'll destroy their servers lol.
Try to utilize your precious bandwidth by bringing in quality traffic. Never try to waste it. The traffic may be less to start with but it will pick up when you start working with your site.
