Obama and McCain?

We have seen both McCain and Obama visit Churches and Synagouges, and even pray as a Christian and as a Jew.

My question is, why haven't these 2 presidential candidates visited a Mosque, let alone prayed in one?

    you are bored, aren't you?
Let's say, after 9/11, I don't think the Americans love Muslims. After all, 3,500 Americans were murdered in the name of this "religion" in one day..

I think it's a fair question. It would be political suicide, and that is sad.

I do need to ask, however - I'm an atheist, though formerly a Christian, so I don't know the answer to this, respecting either Judaism or Islam: can a gentile pray in a synagogue? Can a non-Muslim pray in a mosque? (I honestly don't know).

Ohad, I don't think that makes it right. I was one of those Americans, after 9/11. I don't think it's any more right than the incarceration of Japanese-Americans after Pearl Harbor, or the blaming of Jews for Germany's loss (and all evils known to man) in WWI. The world has seen enough of national scapegoats.

There seems to be an attack like every other day somewhere in the world by radical muslims. The latest I know was in India which seems to be experiencing a lot of it lately. It makes sense that a presidential candidate would want to be too closely associated with the religion. Maybe Islam should hire Kobe Bryant's agent.

    Because that's the "scary" religion.

In my opinion all religion is scary and I wish it had absolutely no part to play in our politics. Unfortunately that's not the current reality so both McCain & Obama have to feign that they are very religious when I do not believe either of them actually are.

I think gentiles can pray in synagouges. In Mosques, anyone can go in and pray (But you strictly have to pray to God, not Jesus as Muslims believe the only person that can help you and answer your prayers is God himself, none of the prophets as they were humans like us). And in Churches of course, anyone can go and pray aswell. I'm pretty sure Muslims are told if they can't find a Mosque, they should go and pray in a Synagouge, if not a Church as they are 'people of the book'.

Here is my opinion: I think Obama would have no problems visiting a Mosque and talking to the people there, the only problem is that if the Media caught him there they would have a field day with it, twist things and it could be the end of his race. I can't believe i'm talking about the same place that coins the phrase "Land of the free, home of the brave".

That said, i don't think McCain would go into a Mosque to talk to community leaders and such - media or no media.

I wouldn't say that's true. Americans are educated people, they know that it was a terrorist attack. We can say the same, like I don't think Arabs love Jews after 1948, or Native Indians don't love Americans after genocide, but it's not true...we're not stupid enough to hold a grudge on a whole group of people when only mabye a few % is bad.

Has ANY Christian President, nominee, or elected official EVER gone to a mosque to "pray"?

    Would that even be appropriate?

It's equally appropiate as going to a synagouge and praying, as they have many times. They both even prayed at the wall in Israel. Why don't they have the freedom to go into a Mosque?

There needs to be fundamental change.

    I disagree.

Now I'm not known for being the most religious person :D. But from what I understand of Islam it would be down right offensive for a President to go into a Mosque and pray to God.

Well, I guess the best way i could explain it is to imagine a Muslim coming into a Christian church in session and dropping a mat down on the floor. He then proceeds to kneel down onto it and starts chanting. Allah Akbah!

And just say hypothetically the U.S. and Iran are allies and it's the president of Iran. Nothing wrong with what he's doing. Just wouldn't it seem inappropriate in "God's house"?

Well, first of all, Muslims do pray in Churches if they can't find a Mosque, except they do it sitting down on the bench/chair. And you don't chant things in prayer, you either say it in your head or quietly as far as i'm aware.

They are all 3 abrahamic faiths and everyone is welcome in each others place of worship as long as you don't pray to anyone other than God.

So again...why would it be 'offensive'? I don't get it.

Ok well I didn't know about the bench thing. So perhaps I am wrong.

I just know that the Islamic Allah, and the Christian God are "jealous" Gods. It is even one of the Chrstian commandments that "thou shalt worship no other God before me".

You take that plus the fact that there are a lot of people out there who are even more ignorant than I am on the subject and it just seems like a bad move waiting to happen because they'll likely take offense.

The God from Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all the same 1 God. But i still don't see what people would be offended about? It's good that you admit that you are ignorant on the subject and are seeking more knowledge though instead of acting like you know everything already, there needs to be more people like you.

Who cares? Why haven't the both said they will cut their salaries and the salaries of everyone in Washington by 50% or 100% (for those that can really afford it) until they get the out of control spending under control?

I've not seen either one of them in a Tee Pee smoking a peace pipe either, but you don't see me complaining.
