Just wondered what directory owners are working on to improve their sites. I'm currently going through all of my submission descriptions and editing them to be written in the same style (thanks for the idea from Chris and Yahoo directory), after that I'll be going through all my meta descriptions so they aren't written in the same duplicated style (thanks for the idea from Google Webmaster Tools). I know adding content outside the directory is popular and there are some who've added blogs, many of these however are not updated regularly, but kudos to Authority Directory for their regularly updated and informative blog. Also a promising start from Dev Web Directory for their extra content.
I recently was cleaning out dead links, parked pages etc, moved some dirs that had turned paid into the right category and made minor change to listing options to increase content. Mostly maintenance basically, nothing exciting. But all the same i feel the maintenance is a major part of a directory.
Improving on page SEO and day-to-day link reviews on FD. Finishing template and sorting category structure on JTG.
Mike please pm me the url I'm always interested to see what niche directories are evolving. Did you know the blog link on FD is not working?
A total script rewrite for Skaffe is a big undertaking we just started and I have a niche directory in the works that should be ready for the public midyear sometime. Several other projects in the planning stages for 09.
Right now just trying to keep up with submission reviews. 2 hours today and still about 400 behind on one.
Lately I been having a hard time to keeping up with all the directories that I want to submit my sites too So I finally created my own directory of directories : Reverse Directory Add your directory and I will at some point in the future submit my sites to your directory.
I am working to get several interesting mods from Darge installed on my directories. I already hired a coder for that purpose.
I am following swedal's advide and trying to write unique descriptions for entries that I accept in my directory. I hope the effort will pay off
Yes AD's blog is impressive and well worth taking the feed, but the myth that a blog needs to be updated regular is from what I can see questionable. I have been busy working on my site, have not written a new blog entry for about 8 weeks, yet my visitor numbers are up, people promoting their blog on the site up (entrecard). This tells me that probably quality over quantity for the sake of it stands true (although my blogs are probably not the best compared to others like AD's) , although i do have some new blogs happening soon.
just improve the site design and study css etc, Also adding more categories and change the category structure for my directories.
i try to learn phplinkdirectory and put more function at my free blog directory.. and i want to sell this directory because i want to run a new directory project... i love this directory.... i spend a lot time to improve this directory... reason selling :- want money do develop the new directory project... i want to buy mod and new license
If I told you I'd have to kill you, but I can say I have worked on and am working on both of the initial directories noted in the first post
I suppose I can call myself a directory owner even if I don't have any live projects atm. I'm currently writing my own directory script for a directory I plan to launch soon. It's not that I think PHPLD and other scripts are bad, but I prefer to write my own scripts so I get something that nobody else have. When it comes to directories, uniqueness should not be undervalued. I expect it to be live in the coming weeks.
I want to setup a new business directory using PMD srcipt that is good one. A little bit costly than Phpld.
That script looks good for a regional directory, it was recommended here recently and I've seen a few sites using it. See they have a support forum too. Good luck with it and let us know how you get on
