If you are good at coding, then I would create a website on which you would offer your coding / programming services. Choose some good keywords and target your site to them, show examples of your work your site, set reasonable pricing and you are ready to work.

Social networks are right pains, but as long as you've got a good amount of active members and it'll just grow if you put the efffort it, no website is easy work, you have to put in countless hours or high amount of cash to get your website popular.

You might consider bidding on work at a site like rentacoder.com or elance.com to start. With a few projects under your belt, you could start offering more services through your own website. Or if it works out well, just keep bidding work--that's a lot easier then running your own website.

Find a website which works well but is not well known and do it better.

it's easier to improve on something than re-invent the wheel!

If you were "re-inventing the wheel" you would be improving it.
