Rental Laws - Motel Room Rent Control?

Hello, I have a serious question at hand. What I would like to know is do motels (that are renting by the week) have the right to raise the rent at any time or do they have to give their tennants any type of notice.

Reason being, I have been at this one for a month now and have to stay for another month before I have my own place, and I usually pay the rent 2 days late every, as the live-in worker knows and that was the case this week too. So I told her that a few days ago on the phone (day before it'd be due) and she was fine with it. I just go to pay it now and she told me that it is raised (which was about a 15% raise)

The reason for the raise was that the motel has been full for the last four days and everyone has to pay the hike, and all rooms whether 1, 2, or 3 beds pay the same price.

Now, the question is am I legally forced to pay this raise this week, as I wasn't informed of it?

Thanks guys, little mad right now

I would say yes since you are paying by the day versus for a whole month stay.

Often prices change due to seasonal changes.

I think you can make an argument that, based on your prior dealings, the landlord should have to inform you of increases in the rent. That said, you are better off just paying the increase and then trying to get a month long contract with your landlord.

I am not paying by the day. I am paying by the week...monthly is not allowed. The reason the girl upped the price is because for the past four days it has been packed but based on when she said that it'd make the night before it was due...which is bull

Seasonal changes don't occur in October...it is already winter, and it is a MOTEL not hotel...

They should have told you days before they are to increase the price. But if you don't have a contract or anything signed, then you might not be able to really argue with her. Maybe they're thinking that if you don't want to pay, you can leave and they will rent it out to someone else with a higher price.

The thing is the day or two days before it was due for the following week I told her that I'd have it two two days after it is due, as I had almost every week. She said okay, and never mentioned a rate increase...not till I came to pay it did she, and the reason for the increase...
