We all seem to concentrate on Google. With this in mind is there any point at all optimnising for Yahoo considering its market share?
I have wondered about this too. it seems that google is the only one that seems to matter anymore. Good question. Hope someone answers it that might know.
it depends what you are referring to. some yahoo services are better than google. I think the news is more popular. the mail was more popular, but gmail is catching up.
I still get good amount of traffic just from Yahoo and MSN even though one of my site got sandboxed on Google.
Yahoo have lesser market share but Yahoo! (with an exclamation point) is actually generating millions of traffic. Its still worth it.
Sometimes Yahoos search results aren't filled with as much irrelevant crap as Google gets from time to time. Yahoo mail is far superior to Gmail as far as I am concerned. Also Yahoo doesn't pretend to be the God and allmighty creator of the internet like Google does. Break one of Yahoos rules and your rankings can drop. Break one of Googles rules (or remove their search from your site!) and get completely thrown out of their index. Also, I can say with 100% confidence that after 3 years of testing that my traffic from MSN and Yahoo converts to customers much much higher than my traffic from Google does. And for my online businesses, that is what really matters to me.
The problem is that very few people know how to optimize for Yahoo. I'm not sure how myself. Some of my sites rank in Yahoo and I can say that the quality of traffic is much better than Googles - in other words Yahoo traffic stays on your site longer, clicks more ads, views more pages, etc. You'll hear this a lot from people and for this reason alone, it is worth trying to get their traffic.
If you consider different utility and model of Yahoo like yahoo answer, yahoo buzz, yahoo directory, yahoo group..and so on, it has relative importance.
Why shut yourself from a market? Even if they have a smaller percentage of search compared to Google, why would you close yourself off from a potential audience/market? Plus, yahoo searchers tend to stay longer on a site, return to your site, and generally make purchases far more often than google searchers.
we cant consider yahoo for its market share but to get visitors we have to try from every aspect and with yahoo as well
google users tend to be hardcore net users, so they are more savvy to ads and ability to perform searches. Yahoo tends to have visitors that are not as ad blind, so they tend to click more ads. MSN has the least savvy users due to having msn as a default search. The yahoo algorithm is less advanced than googles (probably about 2 years behind) so older SEO methods tend to work better. MSN algorithm is horrible and it throws out a lot of good sites in an attempt to target spam sites. Since google has the lions share of searches, more spammers target it. I would trade google traffic for as much from MSN or Yahoo. Google is also moving to manual reviewing of sites, so that will make it harder for spam sites to rank well for competitive keywords.
Thats gonna suck for sure. Google will probably use ODP reviewers for sites and they are clueless about a quality site. Ive seen many people show their good sites not getting into ODP and then I search the category and see the crappiest sites in there
I believe yahoo is a great source of potential SEO revenue. I tend to optimize my sites equally and receive about the same amount of visitors from yahoo as I do from google. Go yahoo! : )
I never use yahoo search frequently, as my home page is set to google search. and about service, i like yahoo messenger, yahoo news and yahoo music. and may be google catching up woth these section as well, yahoo is goin down i Guess.
