It is a directory that sorts listings by the mid amount, usually with the top x number of listings shown on the homepage for max exposure.

People who would like their links to be on the directory

    Bid for the Link position

The higher the Bid, the higher the position,
    the better the exposure

A link bidding directory is one that you should generally stay away from because you can get more for FREE. But if you do have a billion dollars, you could get very good at link bidding directories.

Agree. No matter it's a bidding or general directory, the main aim is for SEO.

IMO bidding directories are a good idea because the fees are adjusted by the submitters demmand. Bidding directories without initial contribution are the best option, that is to say you can be listed for free, but if you want to improve your position you can bid. Also, as a bidding directory owner, I consider really important offer the option to order the results by additional paramaters and not only by contribution.

Howewer, I see a few (and significant) problems with bidding directories, many of them are selling links or 'PR' instead selling positions, this is the main reason why I prefer 'free' bidding directories. Also, I saw a lot of new bidding directories mounted on dropped domains with PR and asking for expensive contributions (maybe a kind of cheating). In addition, other bidding directories have fake contributions to encourage real contributions. Reliable bidding directories should have only real contribution$, top bidders generally promote their sites in many places, so, if you see many top bidders that appear as 'featured' in only 1 bidding directory, you can suspect; also Web Archive can be very helpful to decide the relevance of a bidding directory.

Yes directories are mainly for SEO purpose...but in recent times bidding directory idea has come and its doing good now a days, main idea of the bidding directory is to give the positions for the link owners or website owners based on the bidding they do on the site.

Google doesn't trust them. They'll need to change a lot before they'll be accepted...

Thanks guys, really appreciate your time answering my question. I completely understand the whole point of link bidding now. I tried like 2 bids today but really didn't spend much on them, just the minimum. Although I might not need it, it was just for my portfolio which I don't really promote since I find the work myself through current clients, freelancing sites and forum's requests and offers categories.

I think bidding directories are perfect for one way links.

Bid directories are great for SEO and one way links. Most sites also have very limited sub directories so you wont get buried 8 subs down and stand a better chance of geting index.

They offer something for everyone, it just depends what your after. Backlinks, pagerank, brand awareness etc...
