Your ad targeting is probably your best chance to improve clicks if you already have a good ad placement.

Make sure you are using the Adsense content tags to help Google figure out what your pages are about. I would also review the type of ads you are seeing and make sure you are not getting dumped on with crap ads from eBay, shopping.com, etc. Filter the ones that are serving garbage ads.

Lastly, there is a chance you are in a niche that just does not convert visitors to clicks very well. I have a few sites that target pretty well, use a good well tested placement, but just never really converts clicks since the visitors may not have an interest in leaving the site. This becomes more apparent when you have lots of return traffic. Folks will become numb to your ads. I don't even show ppc ads to my site regulars anymore since I noticed they stopped clicking ads. I use that space to offer tools regular user may find helpful, etc.

    Hope this helps!

Make sure you are using channels. Look at your popular pages where you get impressions. Do the ads match the content? If they don't match then visitors are not going to be intrested. Also have a look at placement and colors of the ads, try colors that blend and ones that are contrasting and see which ones work.

    Sockmoney have some good points.

Of course it depends on how much you want to monetize your site.
I have good experiences regarding ctr with placing a big 250x250 ad in the first article, just under the header.

Also make sure the color of your adsense links match the color of your site links.

    Hope this helps.

There could be several reason why you don't earn much in your blog. One of the reasons could be the ad placement, Although you received tons of traffic in your blog, ads were not click because of its structure or style. Wisemind tip about ads colors is a good one. :D

I would suggest you to rather blend adsense with your site as if it feels that they are part of your site.

On other hand try a contrast.

Check with different variations for a day or two and see which one gives you most clicks and go for it.

I have 3 directories that get over 150 visits per day and virtually no clicks. When I do get clicks they are around .03. I have some of them blended in, but I guess the visitors are just interested in adding their URL's to the site then leaving. Any suggestions?

Try getting more traffic in. More traffic means more chance of people clicking your site. Also like a lot of people said blend the ads in your content. You don't want the ads to be annoying.

Converting visits into click..hmm.... blending... ad optimizing....changing ads regularly..... ads position....
where to use text ads and where to use image ads(this is little tough but works out the best) and all in all the positioning of ur ad inside ur content.
