This website has been on and offline for about 9 years. I bought the domain name last week because the owner had abandoned it. The link - http://www.halflifenews.com/ The website is pointed toward the computer game Half-Life. Any suggestions or opinions?
I'd recommend you to keep updating that site as much as you can! Also, some better SEO work will improve your search engine rankings in the future! I have to admit that you have get very good domain!
kind of plain the green dosent really go well with the blue(id choose other colors) nice domain though i would suggest looking at other gaming sites(as i am a gamer too) Examples http://www.clan-syn.com/ http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml those are too sites that are related to gaming that are eye appealing(to me atleast)
I love this game a lot, remember those school days when we used to play on our school Lan Servers. About design and looks, its not bad, can be done better on banner.
very simple site, try to change the banner and bg color, check the other gaming site hope u will get something from other gaming site.
I don't know what to say about the logo, might need to change it since it's copy protected and don't forget to introduce "News" in the next logo. and also the background its green and kinda the theme of Half-Life its green but your using blue in the rest...
Its funny yall say that. The header logo is a screen shot from the opening seconds of Half-Life 1. Right when the game started, I hit the screen shot key several times, then resized and cropped the image into a header. So either yall have never played half-life 1, or you did not remember the opening scene. But to brighten the header up a little, I though about using a screen shot from Half-life 2.
Add more news about half-life and half-life 2 it seems a bit like just a feed of the news from Steam, maybe try writing some original articles about the games and the huge modding scene. I think the site looks a little bland too, there should be a pic of Gordon Freeman or the G-man somewhere, use a more interesting font, why not ape the logo and colour scheme of the game? The orange would brighten things up a bit. Maybe a comedy screenshots section from the game or something to make it a bit more interactive, run a comp for visitors to submit stories or screenshots from their HL or HL2 experiences, it's a good domain to have. If you want some articles I'll write some for you at a reasonable rate, PM me if you are interested.
well you only changed the header and this is not better then the 1st one and the fond on it isn't great either, the fond from the tittle in the blog would be better, try to find a wallpaper of half-life or some fan art for the header/logo. and change the background to blue or change the blue from the menus to the green in the background.
The header was changed to a screen shot from half-life 2. Its a scene from the bridge area. I was playing the game last night, and was trying to think of a good area to take a good screen shot. The bridge was one thing that came to mind. I might play around tonight and find a better spot. So if anyone has a suggestion of "where" in the game would make a good header, please let me know. The last time google scanned my site was 2 weeks ago, and this was before the site was installed or any articles posted. I wanted to get as many articles as possible posted, and with as many key words before the next scan. For examples I looked at planethalflife.com, and I checked out the Steampowered news page. Last night a site map generator was installed, and the site map was submitted to google. I am hoping that the age of the domain (it was first opened in 1999 then closed for a few years), and good keywords will help the site get some good ranking in the results pages.
