Is there any benefit to getting backlinks from dropped domains?

I often see people who want to buy links making it clear that they are not interested in anything from dropped domains. Why is that? If the domain still has genuine PR, wont there be some benefit from the backlinks?

Thats because some "dark side" webmasters buy them just for PR to get you to submit your link
then before the next update they sell that directory and dump the database before PR gets stripped.
They will allow FREE submits to get the traffic low so that people think its a good directory then find
a sucker to buy it before they catch on to the game.

A fairly good example of this is ClockTowerStudio Directory that has nothing to do
with the Domains Intended Purpose but claims that the FREE template he added
and the Now low traffic make its a great buy.

In the end you should "stop chasing PR" and submit to niche directories and quality directories
and watch out for the scammers that are here today gone tomorrow.

    Thanks Malcolm.

Does that tend to be a problem more with directories, or does the same apply to blogs and general sites?

Here its the directories and blogs that they do this with.

Always check EVERY site (references, domain age, traffic stats ect ect,)
that you plan on doing business with to make sure your not getting a raw
deal in a few days or weeks especially if $$$ is involved :)

    thx
