US helicopter raid in Syria http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7692153.stm Shall we wait Syria to be added into the mix on Middle East? Iran joins Syria to condemn U.S. helicopter attack: http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/10/27/mideast/syria.php I guess its Iran + Syria vs US + Israel ? Comments?
I dont like to see syrias territory broken anymore then i would want to see syrian intelligence agents causing trouble in lebanon and supplying weapons and cash to hezbolla through iran.
There are two sides to a coin, I would tend to believe in USA actions more given that Syria has been actively supporting the insurgency against USA. Though extra territorial strikes should be avoided as much as possible. As Bogart had it "Syria is a cesspool of terrorism" but damian.hoffman retort more or less sums up the issue at hand.
The answer is yes. Syria is a state sponsor of terorism and its terrritory is being used to launch attacks against US troops and Iraqis.
Yes, it does. The US does not need to just sit and watch while other counties allow their land to be used to support attacks on Americans.
Or, we could remove our soldiers from Iraq so they're not being targeted by Syrians. Terrorism is a *tactic*. It has existed for centuries. Since the term terrorist can be applied to anyone that uses this tactic, terrorists can and do live in every country on the planet. The simple fact that terrorist exist in a country should not give us the right to disregard that country's sovereignty in an effort to police the world.
Good logic. We can stopping exporting goods so that ourships are not targeted by pirates or not go to work so that we wouldn't be killed by terrorists.
Most would agree that if this indeed happened, that the act was out of defense of our troops. We absolutely have to protect our troops while we're there trying to get a government setup in Iraq. If Syria does not want to help those efforts, then we must protect ourselves.
Syria is a soverign nation and this was a barbaric terrorist attack by the US. You can try and hide by saying Syria is a cesspool of terrorism (which it isn't), but the fact is, this was a breach of international law.
Damascus hosts the headquarters of Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC). 'Al-Qaeda' in Syria uses Syrian terroritory to launch attacks into Iraq. Syria is also a hub for weapons smuggling into Lebanon and Iraq.
As far as violating their border goes... it isnt like virginity, it doesnt go away the first time it is breached. In the future if they don't wanna see the genie they shouldnt rub the lamp. Otherwise, have their lawyer call our lawyer.
It's not the first time for Syria. A few months ago the Israelis destroyed a North Korean built reactor in Syria. Syria also has little respect for its neighbors borders. They occupied Lebanon for almost 30 years and a PLA invasion of Jordan was launched in 1970.
OK, I understand they attacked Syria to take out terrorists.... However, WHY are the Americans and us Canadians sending over "suspected terrorists" to Syria, after which we find out they were tortured there? Basically something doesn't add up. If Syria is being attacked due to inside terrorist activity, why are suspected terrorists being handed over to them? And if Syria is torturing suspected terrorists, why is it being attacked -- can't the USA just give them names of those that needs to be arrested and tortured?
Even india has thousands of small pockets where police does not dare to enter , military is prevented by politicians , so in near future USA can bomb such pockets in india as well.
Yup, it's all over the news here at the moment... http://news.google.ca/news?oe=utf-8...hl=en&q=canada+syria+torture&btnG=Search+News
The men were probably innocent so the Syrian's tortured them to show the world that they are tough on terrorism. Syria would already know if they were terrorists as they are the 'kingpins of terrorism' Did I mention that Syria had SS Generals that were wanted war crimminals working for their itelligence agency.
