Flipping Websites?

    Hi,
I'm considering getting into flipping websites, probably blogs. Basically buy the blog really cheaply on here, add some content, do some advertising and sell it on, maybe changing the theme if it's really ugly.

Would this be a good way to make money? I remember seeing a few people saying that flipping websites was outdated and now saturated...

    Is it worth it?

Definately worth it. I agree too many people are flipping these days but it is not going anywhere any soon.

You need to put some extra vlaue into your sites to stand out of the crowd. It may be in form of a premium theme, a good logo or an ebook.

Buying blogs for cheap and selling them for a higher price after making some improvements is a nice idea which saves you a lot of time and makes you decent money as well.:)

If you need any more help on website flipping you can PM me.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, rep given.

Do you think it's worth going into a team? I have a lot of experience in writing and like to think I'm pretty good at it, but I've never really advertised a website. I would also need some capital to get started as I'm broke at the moment  If so, what percentage do you think I should give away? I'm going to be doing a lot of the hard work by writing, but then again my partner will be advertising the sites.

Also, how much traffic/revenue should I be getting before I consider selling it on?

^ You also do pointless posting so you can get enough posts to make a thread in buy and sell ;)

    Onto topic:

I have done this for a while now, even if you add unique posts daily then the blog will bump up in value the more google recognises the new content. Its worth the work in the long run.

It worth it if you know the way.
And the market is not saturated yet.
You should take note that the site must not be banned by google

I have never tried flipping websites. I looked into it a few times but it seems like a long process. First you need to buy the website. Spend some time fixing it up. Then you need to put it up for sale on sitepoint or some other website. So you're already in the negative from having bought the website and buying sitepoint points or whatever you need to list items. After all of that you better pray someone finds the website as interesting as you did and wants to buy it from you.

Worst case scenario? Your website doesn't sell.. Now you've got a domain to pay for, hosting, and you lost x amount from buying the sitepoint points and actual website from the previous owner.

I guess at that point you could just stick some adsense on there and hope for the best.

I suppose it's all about how well you do it. I'm assuming part of the skill is buying into a niche that you know will sell well. Also, without traffic, you wont be able to sell the site, so you would need to be fairly good at advertising. But yeah, I suppose if you think about it, it's like anything. If you're good at it, you'll make a profit, if you aren't, then you'll make a loss.

    That's with flipping anything, really.

Take for example real estate. You buy the house, spend time fixing it up, and pray to god it sells after you've invested x amount of dollars into it. So, same scenario - You're negative until you sell it, and if you don't, you pay the mortgage until the house can sell. Flipping websites can be very lucative, and generally do not require a large capital investment upfront (depending on the project, anyway).

No matter what you flip, there will always be an investment, and you will always be losing something before you get something out of it. That's just the way things go.

Why not start a website from scratch?

Flipping websites is good for those who are lucky enough to buy those good quality blogs or websites for cheap rates here at Dp.
Often people in hurry they sell them for cheap. or else one will have to create from scratch and develop it further.

What do you mean by lucky enough?

People put their time and effort in starting from scratch which is the most toughest thing to do in any venture.

To many people they may seem lucky but they actually work and deserve the money.

The biggest part is taking action and thats why a lot of people fail.

I tried flipping websites but i could never find the buyers i even used good domains with my sites but it never worked for me.

One thing i would suggest is if you do this make sure the forums are not already flooded with the type of sites you want to flip.

If you want to call it saturated, then yes it is. But like with all businesses its the best ones that do well.
So if you buy sites for real cheap. Improve it drastically, then no one can refuse buying.
But you need to add a ton of features.
    For eg.
say you buy a site on the niche puppy training.Suppose you bought the site for 35$ and it has some 4 articles. To really make it worth your while, you need to sell this site for $350. For this, you need to get /make available digital downloads, video tutorials, amazon affiliate store, ebay auction store, add good quality content. Do directory submission+link building. Submit to social bookmarks.exchange links with relevant websites. So once the site starts making money, with affiliate links (or adsense) then see whats going right for you and pursue those to squeeze a little more out. And then sell it for a large sum. (see the stress website in my sig as an example of what all might be required. do note that all the scripts i use are absolutely free. so this is where you should be heading)
If you are planning to buy a 35$ site, add 2 more articles and resell it, then there are thousands of folks doing that here and you might be lucky to make a profit.

i forgot to add, for the same cost of buying a old domain, you might consider making one from scratch.
though, domain age and already indexed contents might be good to consider too.

This was my reasoning behind flipping rather than building a new site. Plus, I don't really have the capabilities to design and code, so figured that the domain coming with a ready made site will really benefit me. Also, if it's readymade it will probably have a little bit of traffic.

The whole concept of "flipping" a site is finding websites with high potential that are being sold here for cheap. A lot of people here talk like flipping is easy.... Flipping a site takes ALOT of hard work and if your not good at it you can make twice as much money doing labor.

Also you have to take into consideration that people are much more cautious about buying websites nowadays, especially websites with <3 months of stats.

You can thank the people that purposefully skew stats, and then people wonder why they just bought a lemon.

If you can generate consistent + long-term traffic and revenue to a website, as well as vastly improve the site, then flipping is for you.

You are right. Flipping is not easy but if you put the efforts you will see the results.
