They go through a process right? They don't just reverse a sell or anything? They investigate it?

What kinda protection do we have?

It can take up to 60 days if the amount is less then $500.00 if more then $500 it will take up to 120 days. Now that is only if you are wanting to deposit all the funds, if you do $50-$100 a week then you will be good. Also try to use Google Checkout and pay yourself to withdraw the funds quickly and easy and with no worries about your bank account being touched.

Paypal will always have the right to withdraw money from your bank account without your permission, but if you contact your bank and ask them if they offer any services that will block withdraws from companies or if that you need to first accept the withdraw before the funds are released they are able to do so. I bank with JP Chase and they added that block for me.

So how does that work? Do you tell them in person that its okay? via the phone? Or some button on their website?

well everyone says its 60 days.. but its true but cashing to your bank is little risky....
As when someone chargeback .... paypal will investigate as usual and making HONEST PARTY SUFFER , i would say. you have to clear with the bank as you will get the best answer face to face :)

does paypal usually just take the money out of the bank?

I've been reading all over the web, and i've read alot about Paypal just putting your account in the negatives... like -$50 and such, and then you have to pay that off before using it again.

I'm confused. If paypal can really just take money out of my bank without me knowing beforehand, or without permission, it really makes me not want to use it. Credit Card seems more safe, which is pretty sad, lol

When you verify your bank in paypal then a direct linking to paypal account and bank account happen.
If someone paid you via credit card then he can chargeback the money or if he send the funds as goods payment.
Such cases happen in hacked paypal accounts , like if someone hacked others paypal account which has credit card added in it and pay you , and when the original account holder maked the chargeback , you have nothing to do , rather than loose money.
Be carefull while making deals online via paypal.
While this risk reduces 40% if the paypal account holder pay you via paypal fund , not credit card fund.

    Thanks-
    James

i removed my bank account from paypal. Just doesnt seem safe,
I'm pretty sure the dude i sold the domains to is using a stolen paypal/credit card (yes he is here on this forum). And i dont want my bank account attached to it for the next 60 days at least.

I don't have a problem working with paypal to resolve this, but i shouldnt be shorted because they cant properly protect and secure their members accounts.

Im just worried about them tryin to take the money back, and me not having enough money in my back account, and they rack up tons of overdrafts and crap.

I am going to try the google checkout that someone has suggested earlier. How does that work exactly?

and does anyone have any suggestions on how to get money from paypal in the future deposited in my paypal account without my bank account being directly connected?

I suppose its not a big problem though, after these 60days i may as well just reconnect my bank account, and just watch who i do business with. i dunno. This scammer/fraud crap is new to me.

    edit:

i am thinking as i type this which is why im bouncing all around. lol, what sucks the most is that its so easy to pay and recieve money using paypal. Almost all my online bills are paid with paypal. Maybe what i'll do is just get one of those prepaid debit cards (not the one attached to my bank account), and just put money on it when ever i need, and attach it to my paypal account and use it.
That seems like the safest way.

If you're pretty sure he's using a stolen card or account - why are you having anything to do with him? You expect PayPal to 'protect and secure' your account - but you're not doing it yourself, you already know there's likely to be a problem, and getting ready to blame PayPal for it.

I didn't know before i did business with him. I knew afterwards when the paypal info didnt match his info, and was a different paypal account then he had used before, with a totally different name and address.

If you know the person you dealt with uses a stolen credit card, it would be in everyone's best interest to refund the money and move on rather than to wait for a chargeback or dispute to surface. Pleading ignorance is not make you an innocent party. Of course if you do not know and after you contacted your due diligence and believe the other person is honest then you cannot be faulted for withdrawing information or helping someone cover up for a crime so that you can earn a few bucks.
