Atheist to the bone, mate. And don't forget it.

Atheists don't have to lift a finger to prove that "God" is imaginary. It's obvious.

Because people like you hinder progression, advocate segregation and violence, and perpetuate ignorance.

Hmmmm ... when all else fails, resort to name calling. Yeah, that definitely proves your point.

Hmmm... when all else fails, act like a victim.

You asked why atheists have a problem with religion mark. Masterful gave you a reply; It's because the religious hinder progression, advocate segregation and violence, and perpetuate ignorance. I'd suggest you stop asking questions if you feel inadequately equipped to hear the answer.

Name calling? Actually, I was conveying fact.

However, I don't blame you for mistaking name calling with describing the ramifications of religion.

stOx, I am more then equipped .... but thanks for your concern. I appreciate it.

I'm willing to discuss stuff with you guys as long as you want. I enjoy discussing issues as I think it is healthy and invigorating. More then likely, I'm not going to change your mind about God & you won't change mine. And that's ok.

However, we can discuss things without making derogoratory comments -- like the comment about how religious people advocate violence and perpetuate ignorance. That's like saying all women are sluts.

I mean, hey, I could make plenty of negative statements about atheists ... but I won't. What would it accomplish?

You have a right to your opinion & I have mine. Just because someone has a different viewpoint then you is not a reason to make derogoratory comments.

To get back to your comment, actually I did not ask "why atheists have a problem with religion". What I did ask is:

Notice I never said "religion". I'm not interested in religion ... religion is simply man's failed effort to get to a god.

What I am interested in is having a relationship with God ... and a person who is truly trying to live a life pleasing to God will not hinder true progression, will not advocate segregation, will not advocate violence, and will not perpetuate ignorance.

There's a huge difference between having a relationship with God & religion. Don't confuse God with religion.

    Huh?!

I don't see how making observations about religion is the same as calling all women sluts for no reason.

Apparently, there aren't too many people who are interested in having a 'relationship' with god. They are more interested in their religion and they start talking bullshit the moment someone points out something wrong/illogical/barbaric about their religion.

Also, if you're not into religion at all, why do you get offended when atheists flame religion and religious fundamentalists?

I think that's a great banner. It really has a lot less to do with religion than you guys are focusing on. The message is
    "Stop worrying and enjoy life".

Actually, I thought my post was pretty self-explanatory. Earlier in this thread Masterful you stated that "the religious hinder progression, advocate segregation and violence, and perpetuate ignorance."

While it may be true that a small percentage of "religious" people are in fact guilty of that, to say that all are guilty is a false, foolish, & bigoted statement. Just like saying that "All women are sluts" is a false, foolish, & sexist statement.

Actually Contentedge, I totally agree with you on that. Too many people do use "religion" as an excuse.

Never said I was offended, I never acted offended ... I thought we were just discussing?

Or perhaps you are offended that we're discussing this?

The only argument god believers can make is "prove it does not exist". I cannot prove invisible fairies do not exist in my sock drawer.

Actually, I'm never false, and I'm especially not foolish. But bigoted? You may have a point there! :D

Now, in line with your above quote, I shall revise my statement . . .

All religious people hinder progression and perpetuate ignorance, while not all - just most - advocate segregation and violence.

    How's that?

I'm going to have to agree 100%. I don't like to offend other people's beliefs as this may have, but I will join anyone in saying "STOP WORRYING". There is so much fear mongering going on in religion it is the precise thing that turned me away from it.

Athiest, Christian, Muslim, who cares, it's just a philosophy of what you think the truth is, if the difference creates war amongst each other and you're taking part, you're not really seeking truth - you're feeding the ego. It is my belief, as humans, our primary purpose on this planet is to be happy, enjoy each others' company, and gosh darn-it stop being a fearful frank!
