Question about expired domain names?

Now a days, in the forums I see a lot of people selling aged domains for very low prices. I have seen that there are some auctions for the expired domain names in some registrars, my question is if a domain is expired but not deleted, If somebody would win that auction and got the expired domain , then will it's registeration date change? or will It stay the same?

 

Im not totally sure on this, but I think the registration date stays the same.

For buying registered domain little bit risky. before buy take care about the domain whether penalized or some other problem
