Hi, I may well be doing a deal involving some dropped domains.

I am after a bit of advice really, as its not somthing I have done before...

No, I know all the arguments for/against dropped PR domains, losss of backlinks etc... But I have 2 questions...

    1) Anyone have PERSONAL experience of trying to keep PR (Did you build lots more backlinks rapidly, or did the older ones remain) - I just want a few answers from people so I can guage the AVERAGE answer

    2) What are peoples opinions of a fair price for 50 pr4 domains, dropped or otherwise, being pretty generic in name?

Cheers folks, and yes, the best answer (as in, concise, but helpfull) after 24hrs will win a FREE google news Press Release for their site (NO adult/gambling/medical blah blah blah...)

    Cheers in advance folks!

    Mike

I found that the pr will drop very fast. The only thing that stays is the backlinks. I like to find domains with lots of backlinks and lots of pages indexed in google. I guess I am not to worried about pr. [IMG]

i have got many domains which google has removed page rank (and no listing on google even for fullsitename.com) for various reasons (not expired domains, but things like no site for a long time) and managed to get back the pagerank of many without making any new links. i have got a pr4 like that (from pr0) as well
but a little link dofollow social bookmarking submission help to make things bit faster.
at the moment im experimenting with a google banned sort of a domain which have enough links to make it pr4 - p5
i have had domains which have increased pagerank even whilst i was just parking the domain :)

mmmm it really depends on many factors. lets say if its just a Ok pr4 with good backlinks then will fetch atleast $50 each in a auction. but can got upto realistic $200 if the name is pretty generic. lert me know the domains if you need a personal valuation

I have a few PR domains that I bought through GoDaddy's TDNAM.
One went from PR-3 to PR-0 (I had expected it because it was part of a webring.)
One or two went from PR-2 to PR-1.
One went from PR-4 to PR-N/A (I think that was my fault  | It is now back at PR-4)
And the rest have either stayed the same, or increased since I have owned them. (Most of them are parked and I have not added links to any of them)
So I guess it depends where you get them from.

From what I understand, if you buy your domain from Godaddys TDNAM, it keeps the registration date of the first Godaddy owner, so if someone has a domain for 5 years and lets it expire, you buy it as a domain that is already 5 years old, the whois info will say 1 registrar 2 owners over the last 5 years..
Maybe that is why the domains that I have got (that have kept backlinks) have retained PR.
I am not sure what happens if you change the registrar or if it drops completely. (maybe that is the reason why some lose PR and some don't)

I am not sure what you mean by dropped.. if they have dropped you should be able to get them for reg fee.

    but anyway.
There are to many variables involved to be able to give an answer. (like where are the backlinks from, are all the backlinks from a related niche, or are they from blog comments and directories, do they get traffic. etc)
You should check each domain individually and try to decide on a fair price for that domain only, then when you are done, add them all up, then offer 25% of the total (because you are buying in bulk) and see what they say.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

Some people say Google tracks whois info and when it changes the PR goes off pretty soon. Hence you should be safe if you buy domains which have privacy protect enabled.

I've bought domains from TDNAM a few months back and all of them lost their PR and were banned for site: and info: operator search within a month. Even lost all backlinks. NetSol provided me a much better hit rate. I guess Google tracks domains sold at TDNAM/GoDaddy.

When you could buy quality, non dropped PR4 domains for about $50 in DP itself, why take the risk of buying dropped domains.

I bought a PR2 dmoz listed dropped domain about 3 months ago, and it dropped only to PR1.

Here's a little trick. If you aren't planning on developing the site right away, go to archive.org and grab the old pages and put them back up. That's what I did so if a dmoz editor reviews it, it still looks the same. To the Google spider, it looks the same.

Nor sure about the legality, but obviously the old owner didn't want it anymore and I don't see why they would care (I removed anything obvious like phone numbers and addresses and re-worded some things on the pages).

    So far so good.

    No worries mate.

    Just thought I would add..
A way you can find domains with PR to register is by going to Godaddy's domain name aftermarket (you need to be a member) and click on the closeout sales, these are the domains that are about to drop and you can register for $5 plus reg fee. (use advanced search to filter out extensions you do not want and other variables)

Copy and paste the list to notepad, use edit replace to get rid of the other info so you are just left with the domain name. then copy and paste the list into a bulk pagerank checker. (here's one: http://checkbulkpagerank.com/)

I just scanned through 60 random ones and found some that were PR-1 and PR-2, a bit more time spent doing that and I am sure you could find some higher PR ones.
It's a bit more time consuming but probably more fun and maybe a lot cheaper.

    Cheers
