Adding New Pages...Good or Bad?

I have read 2 differing answers...the first states that "spiders love new pages with fresh content", the other stated "its only important to have as many pages as you need"...so who is right?
I have a site that currently targets Texas.....but i am going to add landing pages for each big city...i.e....Dallas, Austin, Houston and so on. Good idea or leave it be...i have dropped 4 spots in the SERPs in the last 6 months.

I´m pretty sure, that´s good idea buddy. Not only you´ll have more targeted traffic from search engines once your pages got indexed, but also "spiders love new pages" (that´s the true, buddy, ask any seo optimizer), so they will help your site...

New pages are almost always a good idea. City pages would be a good idea as you would be able to target terms related to each city. For best results you should gradually expand your site to cover more and more Texas related topics. In addition to getting search engine traffic to these new pages, you are also strengthening your overall Texas theme throughout the site.

I would go with your first statement. Spiders love fresh content with new pages. The more relevant pages to each city, the more search engine crawlers will crawl.

Although new content is good, becareful on duplicate content. Just changing the city name on a webpage will not make "orginal" content. When you consider the header, left side nav, footer, and basic template, this amounts to a lot of common code. Add to this the "boilerplate" text and you will have duplicate content.

The statement "its only important to have as many pages as you need" is correct. You tried to manipulate the results by adding pages with big cities thinking it would improve your chances of ranking better for those cities, which you should never do.

I am sure you would have copied content into all the pages when doing so. I think optimizing the content by writing original content for each of the pages should get you ranking well.

Also try building back links for each of these new pages.
