Germs on your Toothbrush

Anyone seen the ads for the germ terminator? I don't know if they still run them on T.V., but I remember them stating some pretty alarming stats. Like, 1/2 toothbrushes tested in a culture will show up positive for fecal matter. Yuck. Anyway, what do you think about sterilizing toothbrushes. Can it improve your immune system and overall health?

I am always in the mind set that having a few germs here and there are good to build up your immune system. If I drop a bit of food then I pick it up, wipe it and eat it :) If you have everything sterylised then the moment you see a germ you will keel over and be sick :D I am rarely sick... only time I had off work was because of a knee dislocation in the last 6 years or so.

I remember an episode of the mythbusters where they placed toothbrushes all over the house and then analyzed them for germs... even the ones in the kitchen ended up having fecal stuff on them, so there is just no use on trying to avoid it. Your body is quite a piece of art and can sure handle some germs on a toothbrush, so don't worry about it

How in the world does fecal matter get on your toothbrush?

Just from your hands probably and not cleaning them properly. Might only be a few tiny particles... I am sure you find them all over :)

They sell packages of 7 toothbrushes for about $10 at Costco.

I switch mine about every month.

(They're good to keep around the house for guests too. :))

Why would i try to avoid it?
If you're not exposed to the germs you're body cant have defenses to it...;)
When i have kids they're going to play in the mud and roll in the ground all the time...I don't want my kids with allergies to everything and sick twice a month. ;)

Apparently, even most new toothbrushes are already infected according to their studies.

Even, if you were to try and buy a new toothbrush to avoid germs, you'd have to buy a new one everytime you brush because your mouth gets filthy everytime you eat something. And, then all that gunk sits on your toothbrush and breeds nasty little buggers for hours and hours waiting for you to brush again and inject yourself with germs. When you brush your scratch your gums and these germs get into your bloodstream.

Germs are all over everything anyway. Throw it in the microwave every few days if you are losing sleep over it.

Not Fecal Matter, Fecal Coliform Bacteria.

Geez, think elves are sneaking in your house when you asleep and rubbing their butts with your tooth brushes?
