    Hello...

Somebody in the "directories section at DP" found out that "Yahoos Directory" still does in fact
offer page rank and it has NOT been stripped but seems to be an error .

    EX:
    http://dir.yahoo.com/Arts/ = Zero PR0
    http://dir.yahoo.com/arts/ = PR6

    EX:

    http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/ = PR0
    http://dir.yahoo.com/business_and_economy/ = PR6

    Conclusion:

Yahoos directory has not been killed or stripped of its PR but rather the script causing problem
or googles bots cant figure out what capital letters are.

Im not saying that ALL directories are having these same issues but a very good possibility
and something that will have to be checked in the next few months.

Yahoo directory is not a paid directory. You can pay so that your site is reviewed within 7 days but it is not guaranteed that your site will get listed.

But yeah, google has removed the two lines you mentioned.

Google still considering some good quality links from directories too. We can not just say that directory submission is not good, but submission to junk directories is not good. One should be causious while submiting to directories.

Shhhhh let them believe whatever they want :)

Those whom have still been submitting wont tell you anything as they dont want
the others to do it and catch up to them "naturally" in the serps :D

Ok so now lets see some other options "other then directories"....

So lets try getting "Blog or Site Links"

I suggest those whom dont want or need directory links to start contacting blog owners
and pay them to add your link or exchange links with them on their blog or website.
Yea ... good luck on that wild goose chase as nobody want you spamming them for links :p

Ok lets do "social media" sites instead...

Wow i have all kinds of traffic (your site best be dam good) now coming from Digg, facebook , and the selected few others.
The problem now is that after a week or two at the front page your site has become old stale news and now is deep within
thousands of posts from others and your traffic has evaporated ... But hey you manged to get 15-20 people that liked your
site so much that they blogged about it or offered you a link (so now you have 15-20 links pointing to your site....congrats)

Another alternative you can do is PPC...

So lets go ahead and pull out the ole credit card and spend $1000 minimum per month to advertise and have hundreds if not
thousands of people clicking those links (including competitors) and "hopefully" they will buy something and you can make some profit.
Now after the great campaign is done how many "links" do you have pointing to your site .... zero. Ok so i guess that ends the traffic
surge you paid for and you have zero links towards your natural rankings or "link popularity"... well done

Im not trying to pay a cent so ill just post in "forum threads" and get links and traffic

Wow i just luv the word "FREE" and i like the fact that few are "targeted visitors", that mostly come from countries that cant pay attention
let alone pay for anything from my site but hey something is better then nothing right... (hundreds of irrelevant links and traffic, congrats)

    In the End....

I suppose there is many ways to get links and traffic pointing to your site (other then directory links) and ALL count to some degree
but in the end the choice is ultimately yours including how much time you spend or money you decided to invest in to build your sites
link popularity which ultimately raise your sites higher in the serps.

    Directories Died.

Article Directories are the next thing that might die as well.

Google Now days ranking FOrums and Social sites high. Because its visitor rated content.

    Google supporting web 2.0.

I think 1 page website and directory links are gone. It was web 1.0.

Very true. They want to keep organic rankings the way the are meant to be - natural. the links should be from content

Directory submission is a good technique used in the beginning to promote new website but due to some reasons google ignoring it's importance. So don't stop doing it because there are some or the other hidden benefit of Directory submission..

First of all Yahoo Directory looks like shit and the quality of links is poor! They should be banned! Yes I'm talking about yahoo! On another note this the open directory project also looks like shit!

Google has no clue where there going with this! For one they can't control it and it's messing with their crappy mathematical algorithm.

Google doesn't like it because they can't control it and if Google can't control everything on the net look out!

I really hate Google sometimes! Actually I always hate them but I like the money they send me! So in general I'm using Google for money and that's it! If it wasn't for the money I would divorce Google!
