after ONE single successful full run yesterday today it's back to the old error message = down again.
i am working on a similar tool, the main engine (just functionality, without design) will be ready in 2-3 days. who wants to test-drive it then, please PM me. also, suggestions for features that are not present in DP's tool, but would be nice to have in my tool, are welcome
excellent idea desired features would be: - mass-delete keywords - mass-deactivate ( without deletion ) keywords - allow Yahoo API to be used to get accurate Y results most importantly - have the tool as open source to run on own server! and may be add other SE - such as ask.com ... ready to test drive any time
When you see "inaccurate" yahoo results, go to yahoo and hover over the link to your site you are expecting to show the position for, you will see it is a yahoo tracking link. They do this for a period of time and then you will see the tracker showing the correct position and you hover over the link then to see your site shown on hover. I hope that made sense...
Um, no, sorry, it didn't, at least not to me. Getting back to the original subject of the thread, Keyword Tracker hasn't been working for me for the past four days, except for backlinks. If I click on a single keyword, I get a page with three errors. If I click on "Check all," I get bupkis. Is Keyword Tracker working for anyone right now? If so, what did you do to get it working for you?
Yup, tracking not working again for me either. On Yahoo though, give an example search and what site you are tracking that isn't matching up to the results given by the tracker.
I generally run Keyword Tracker on the 15th of each month, so the most recent results I have are more than a month old. I run 40 keywords for one site and 48 for another. I get different results for somewhere between half and two-thirds of the keywords. Sometimes the difference isn't great; sometimes it's substantial. Sometimes Keyword Tracker misses a second ranked page. Last month for "hospital bill errors" Keyword Tracker had www.erwaxman.com ranked 39; a manual search found it ranked 40 and 58. For the same keyword, Keyword Tracker had www.hospitalbillauditing.com ranked 7 and 10; a manual search found it ranked 7 and 8. For "auditing hospital bills" Keyword Tracker had www.erwaxman.com ranked 3 and 7; a manual search found it ranked 4 and 5. For the same keyword Keyword Tracker had www.hospitalbillauditing.com ranked 2 and 8; a manual search found it ranked 2 and 3. For "reduce hospital bill" Keyword Tracker had www.erwaxman.com ranked 14 and 17; a manual search found it ranked 19 and 42. For the same keyword, Keyword Tracker had www.hospitalbillauditing.com ranked 3 and 13; a manual search found it ranked 6 and 18. For "hospital bill audits" Keyword Tracker had www.erwaxman.com ranked 8 and 10; a manual search found it ranked 8 and 9. For the same keyword Keyword Tracker had www.hospitalbillauditing.com ranked 1 and 6; a manual search found it ranked 1 and 2. As you can see, there's no consistency to the discrepancies.
@erwaxman tracking tools provide only around search results but they are still very good information. BTW, congratulations... your SERPs are running better than last month results see the reports: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Search engine ( www. google.com ) , keyword ( hospital bill errors ) , key URL ( www. erwaxman.com ) 10/18/2008 Trend Report: 1 : rank# 15 :: http: //www.erwaxman.com/ 2 : rank# 16 :: http: //www.erwaxman.com/Hospital_Audit_Policies.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Search engine ( www. google.com ) , keyword ( auditing hospital bills ) , key URL ( www. erwaxman.com ) 10/18/2008 Trend Report: 1 : rank# 1 :: http: //www.erwaxman.com/ 2 : rank# 2 :: http: //www.erwaxman.com/Hospital_Audit_Policies.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Search engine ( www. google.com ) , keyword ( reduce hospital bill ) , key URL ( www. erwaxman.com ) 10/18/2008 Trend Report: 1 : rank# 9 :: http: //www.erwaxman.com/ 2 : rank# 10 :: http: //www.erwaxman.com/Hospital_Audit_Policies.html regards,
What is "tracking tools provide only around search results" supposed to mean? If you're saying that "3+7" really means "somewhere around 3 and somewhere around 7" or maybe "somewhere around 5 and somewhere around 12" or possibly "bigger than a bread box and smaller than a piano," I think that you're wrong. Tracking tools are supposed to report the results that the search engines produce. The exact results, not approximations. This thread concerns problems with Keyword Tracker not working and with its Yahoo search results. How Google ranks one of my sites is completely irrelevant. But thanks for your interest.
I checked some of these and found none of the tracking URL's yahoo sometimes uses. But usually when they are running those you will see your manual 4 be shown on the tracker as 50 because that is the first non-tracking URL to your site. Also, sometimes Google gives different results depending on whether you are showing 10 or 20 at a time and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for the differences - maybe Yahoo has a similar deal.
I know nothing at all about tracking URLs. I never heard of them before today. But I do know that Google results can vary quite considerably depending on which of its datacenters handles a search request. It's possible for a site to be ranked 1 for a keyword at some datacenters and simultaneously not to be ranked in the top 100 for the same keyword at other datacenters. That has never made any sense to me, but I've come to accept that that's how Google works. I don't think that the number of results shown per page has anything to do with it. As far as I'm aware, Google is the only search engine that uses multiple datacenters, but I'm certainly no expert when it comes to search engines. Or to tracking tools.
erwaxman, the difference between your manual searches and Keyw Tracker's searches is that you search on www.google.com , and KT uses a special URL for this kind of applications, that use a Google API key. If I recall right, that URL is http://api.google.com/search/beta2 (don't try to search with it, as it only allows SOAP queries, and not regular queries) so, if your manual search gives # 19 and 42, and KT gives # 14 and 17, this does not mean KT is crazy as google's API server really sees your site on #14 and #17 i hope i was clear
I'm starting to think it is a Google problem, not a KWT problem. SeoChat has a disclaimer on their site that Google has been ignoring queries, and other tools like oyoy.eu are not working properly either. DigPageRank seems to be okay. The KWT does seem to be checking links, but for one site it shows 55 in Google when everywhere else I can check, it shows 7 or 8... changed yesterday. I don't know that the Google API is correct...
If it was a google problem then the MSN and Yahoo keywords would work. It is a tracker issue not google.
Perfectly clear. But as I said in my response to wacamoi, "This thread concerns problems with Keyword Tracker not working and with its Yahoo search results. How Google ranks one of my sites is completely irrelevant." Unless Yahoo also has a special API server and multiple datacenters. As for Google's API server and multiple datacenters, maybe one day Google will explain why it doesn't synchronize results across all of its servers, or at least across all of its servers located in the same country. Why should the results that you see vary according to which server handles your search request? The server that handles any particular search request seems to vary randomly. If you do ten searches in a row, they might be handled by ten different servers. I'd prefer a little consistency. If I wanted a crapshoot, I'd go to a casino.
Not working for me either. Got it to work for one run back on the 15th, was down for several days before that as well.
FYI FWIW: I have a home-grown tool that also used the Google SOAP API and it has continued to work each day ... so I think at least that part on Google's end is still working (?)
