I have been monitoring the Yahoo directory closely over quite some months, mainly because I have spent a lot of money submitting numerous sites over the past few years. I have recently noted that the category: http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/ has no more page rank. Its gone completely! Has anyone got an explanation for this? Does a listing in that category still get any benefit from being listed in the directory? Is it a glitch in my browser? Is it banned or just no page rank? I appreciate your input and comments...
I appears that way. It's the future of all directories not using rel=nofollow tags. I think this will include paid and free directories.
Thanks for the replies but I'm not understanding the relation of nofollow tags with the fact that page rank has been dropped or it even appears the directory category is banned?
i think its googles way punishing people buying and selling links in high pr directories, basically someone can come along to a pr7 directory pay $xx amount and get a link to the pr0 site, because the site is do-follow all that pr juice is being passed on to the new site, therefore links are being built unnaturally and pr is being gained unnaturally If you have a no follow tags on your directory then pr juice is not passed on so there is no reward from buying links, links are submitted and approved if suitable therefore links are built naturally. If you had to choose between loosing high pr for your site or selling a link to a crappy site and loosing pr what would you choose?
I think the page still passes PR as before but its mainly to disuade directory owners from using PR as a reason to submit I don't think nofollow is the future for all directories either
There is a problem with Capital letters example: http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/ Is indexed in google as http://dir.yahoo.com/society_and_culture/ and it also has PR. same thing for other subcategories.
I didn't mean there is a problem with having capital letters in URLs in general. There is an indexing problem for dir.yahoo.com
