I just want to know more about link baiting. As far as I know, link baiting is only writing an article or simply publishing your site. Anyone can give me more idea?

Here is the best story of link baiting I have heard about from a friend of mine. Someone created a website about a young boy who lived in a very poor part of Jamaica. He had no mother, and his father was disabled, and they were very poor, basically a real sad story. He was able to make a information website and was able to learn how to get higher ranking on google, msn and yahoo. He started using google adsense, and hit his peak of earning over 5000 USD in one month. He is basically now completely supporting his family, who no longer has to live in a poor ghetto in jamaica thanks to this 10 year old boy. He went as far as photoshopping pictures of the young jamaican boy holding up his adsense check for over 5,000 USD in front of the camera. The website received tens of thousands of links, from pages such as the times, daily news, and tons of other authority websites. He is still earning 3-4 thousand USD a month fropm the adsense ads on that website, and when the story was first released he made over 25 thousand in one week. Anyway thats a very advanced form of link baiting for ya.
the only link baiting that I am doing right now is sposnoring some contest. You could also try to make a plugin and some theme that you would be giving for free.
Link baiting has been around for quite a while James so that statement could be a little offtrack. Link baiting is sure a good way of getting natural one way links, but it is easiers said than done. Also is very difficult to predict with a certain level of certainty if a content would go viral. So it is more of a hit and hope thing. Well having said that nothing is for certain in this world and that would not mean that we all stop trying.

Its not upto writing article and publish it. Its about to write some thing unique which attract people and publish it in right time on right place so peoples attract to give you reference link.
It means to create something that naturally attract backlinks for your web page by getting people to talk about it, discussing it on forums, blogging about i, posting it on del.icio.us/Furl/Digg/Shoutwire and linking to it from their sites. It also attracts a lot of visitors. It can be done through... 1) Online events on your website 2) Writing an interesting article on your website 3) Posting informative audio or video on your website. 4) Become an expert in your niche and write valuable information, etc..
