Should I Still Pay For Link Submissions to Directories?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by las vegas, Oct 19, 2008.

    Hi Guys,

I may be a little late to the discussion, but I now understand that Google no longer values directory submissions, or at least not as much as they did before. So does it make sense to still pay for directory submissions for ranking in the other search engines or just for traffic? Your advice is very welcome.

Also, I am interested in any linking service that provides links based on theme or topic, as I believe that this definitely has merit. Any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Las Vegas

I still buy lots of directory links. I find benefits in search engine ranks and direct clicks / traffic.

From what I have seen with my websites. Google no longer values directories as regular links like they used to but they still do value them to a certain degree. I have actually stopped buying links for the most part unless it is on websites that arn't set up in directory format and are relevant. It seems now Google is going to weighing heavily high PR and authority websites that are somewhat relevant to the page it is linking to.

Google mostly prefers paid link more. if you want to increase the site rank and traffic on your website then you could continue to pay for directory submision.

Well not sure if it's true or lies, google has 0 value of directories. People would still use them just for link building but doubt it's worth your money.

Directory links are pretty useless, Google's webmaster guidlines has actually removed the suggestion of submitting to them.

And as for getting traffic from the directory... Nobody uses directories so you won't get any traffic

Don't waste your time or money

Google webmaster guidelines have also removed phrases that prompted webmasters to get any backlink 'actively'. I agree with others that directory links are the lowest quality links and you would do better if you can get some high PR relevant links. But at the same time directory links are some of the cheapest links.. you get what you pay for it :)

Directory submission is still a part of link building ever since and a link is still a link.

    Hi

If you don't want to pay for it, I use a semi-automatic directory submissions on submitterbot.com, I have used it on one of my sites but haven't seen any real benefits yet. Hope this help

If you want to get good response from Google you should submit your website only to paid directories.
Moreover., there are only about 20-30 paid directories in internet worth to submit. Looking for submission cost about $800-$1000 for 30 directories, but never for $5 for 100 ( some funny people offer 500 and even 1000)directories

Yep like I said I think right now Google is slowly going to all relevant links. Like many top SEO people are saying now, build your website like Google doesn't exist. This does not mean go and spam your link but it means try to get links as natural as possible.

Directory submissions are a waste of time, and a waste of money if you are paying for it. Submit to dmoz and leave it at that.

If that's the case relevant links are out, period.

If it weren't for all the traffic and sales I got from directory listings, I would agree. ;)

The basic rules of SEO would suggest that a link coming from your average link directory (some random, untrustworthy site with dozens of links on every page) is not going to be a very valuable link.

A directory like Dmoz, though, which is linked to by many trustworthy sources, is a different story.

Not all links are created equal!!

Yes its true . All the sites ranking in a cat i want to rank for are all listed in paid industry specific directories. Not crappy directories with millions of categories. Descent directories that serve a value and purpose to people looking for services in that field.
I don't agree totally. But I can see how it would weed out the spammers by only allowing people who are prepared to pay for expensive links to rank.
It seems there is a monopoly..To list in 3 or 4 of these directories for me is going to cost 1600.00
400.00 is the cost of each directory for a 12 month listing.

    Oh well.
