Republicans - Intellectuals (A.K.A. The Smart People) are bad?

Republicans are the only party that seem to be able to get it's constituents to rally behind the idea that elitist intellectuals are bad for our country.

    Why is that?

Because not many people like condescending assholes who think that just because they received a certified education that they are superior to those who do not?

And by the way the base of your party are not really "intellectual". Pseudo intellectuals or intellectual wannabes maybe. Where they picked up this little fad trait I have no idea but it kind of reminds of the "elites of the past" responsible for great human misery. I'd like to think people these days don't wanna be ruled over or looked down upon, they'd like someone in office with some honesty and integrity who doesn't view the average American as someone who is dependent on your "intellectual abilities".

If you think you're an intellectual, chances are you're not. The smartest people keep it simple and respect their peers. Going to college won't help you in these coming economic downturns. You can wave your college degrees around all you like but you're going to have to learn how to grow a garden sometime to survive. ;)

Not many educated people like half-literate dumbfucks who've never picked up a book, or read a newspaper, or sprung a curious impulse, declaring those of us who have spent some time in academia to be somehow "less American" than the "true Americans" from the "real America," either, Nate. Particularly when those "'Merican" people are at the same time in charge of military prowess, instruments of economic power, and all the rest.

I'm against the people you are describing as well. Not because they are illiterate or dumb though.

I don't like elitists but I'm not one of Hannity's boys either :).

I'm against "Freedom Fries today, Freedom Fries tomorrow, Freedom Fries forever." I'm against those same people getting hives if you speak a second language, or give a damn what Montaigne, or Heraclitus, or Rochefoucald thought. I'm against "dittoheads," or ditto-anything.

The problem I've seen, is that dumb and illiterate, and the views in the above paragraph, have grown to be inextricably intertwined, over the last decades of my life - just replay George "I got C's" Bush, about 20 million times.

My first post on intellectuals refers to the condescending ones who've come to believe the "lesser ones" need their guidance and leadership.. they kinda act like the pope, and that guy's a little asshole. No one's worth more than me, I'm not worth more than anyone.

For the people who ARE educated and actually unique, and don't carry themselves like an elitist, I have serious respect for those people.

ditto's to you npt. I love freedom fries with ranch dressing. C averages can succeed and that is one of the things that is wonderful about the United States. A person drive and desire, along with collateral, credit report, and ability to repay, is more important than grade point average when determining ones success. ACORN is h-bent on registering the "dumb and illiterate" which is the main voter base of the democratic party.

I know, Nate, and I do understand your point as well. Guess I've seen enough bullshit to fill a landfill from certain sectors (sniff immediately northward in these parts, to get an idea), that I also take issue with the notion that academic achievement is "nothing."

ditto's to you again npt, academic achievement is something but only minuscule when it comes to voting for a candidate. Give me a man of action, integrity, and high moral fiber any day over academic achievement . When a paramedic comes to you, do you ask what his academic achievements are?

Obama is quite the purveyor of the Marxist quotes. His favorite Marxist quote "politics of fear".

Well, call me crazy, but I try to make sure they're qualified to treat, before doing an emergency roadside tracheotomy, for example. Perhaps you're comfortable allowing a guy who got "C's" in med school, who choose to spend his time getting drunk, to cut into you during surgery, but well, you know, the idea of an imbecile at the other end of a scalpel, or someone who takes more pride in being a "dittohead" than learned on any subject at hand, well, yep, call it insanity, but it makes me cautious.

Very good conversation here aside from the occasional outburst.....

So what I'm gathering from this is that it's not necessarily that Republicans hate intellectuals so much as they don't like elitists. I can most certainly acknowledge that true elitists are a danger to the country because they think they're better than us all and want to force their guidance upon us. That's a little too close to communism or even worse royalty. No thanks.

The Democrats have a habit of nominating smart people for the top office. Bill Clinton was the most intelligent president in the past 20 years and arguably of all time. He earned academic scholarships in highschool and attend Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University in England. and graduated with a law degree from Yale University. After law school Bill became a law professor at the University of Arkansas-Fayettville. By some accounts, Bill Clinton is a genius.

    Then we had Bush.....

Now the Democratic nominee is Barack Obama, a Harvard educated lawyer who chose public service over millions as a lawyer.

He's running against 3rd from the bottom McCain.....

So I guess I just saw a pattern here and wanted to discuss. Passion and lov eof country is great but it's also an emotion. And it can cause you to make poor or irrational decisions on a whim instead of really thinking it through. And you guys like that in a president? That makes you feel safe?

    dittos to you bro

Since you graduated from Berkley, which is the 3rd ranked school in the world, that only allows you to be treated by Doctors and Paramedics that graduated from Berkley, Standford and Harvard. Do you ask for class rank to make sure they did not graduate 3rd from the bottom?

lol stop trying to confuse the very well made point npt just made homebiz.

You just set yourself up with a really stupid analogy and he hit it out of the park. You basically gift wrapped it for him.

When your life is on the line you want the smartest doctor possible working on you. Period. Unless you're a dumbass.

It's stupid because it's the perfect analogy for the OTHER person's argument. Not yours.

Geez if I'm going to have to explain everything to you this could take all night.

LOL - yeah, ole' Biz likes me so much he called me, and others like me, a disgrace and a traitor to my country, though I'm a vet.

Biz, let me make it easier for you. I don't like you. I don't find you funny. I don't find your view healthy for the American people I treasure. You choose to create a puddle of dog crap to step in, do so at your own hazard.

Incorrect. When your life is on the line, you want the doctor with the most experience possible working on you. Period. Not someone who just got out of medical school. Unless, of course.... ;)

If the doctor that just got out of medical school is smarter than the older experienced one, then well.... ;)

For example, if doctor noob graduated with a 4.0 and was trained on the latest technique to treat my particular problem then yeah... it's doc noob for me.

    Yourself?

I know you don't like me and the feeling is not mutual. I don't think your views or mindset are healthy for America and maybe even dangerous. When did I call you a traitor?

I'm going to stick with the experienced doctor in the field, the one with years of experience perfecting the technique that he taught that young medical student while he was in school.
