The four Character domain can be worth thousands of dollars depending what they are , meaningless 4 C are not worth more then $ 10.Even a long tail keyword worth thousands of dollars.
Just check the latest sale price of domains at : http://dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm

4 character .com domains comprising of letters and numbers are freely available to register.

however 4 digit .com domain hardly go below $100
four letter .com domain hardly go below $10
the 3 character .com domains hardly go below $200

thats how the speculative domain market is like at the moment :)

Those would be names that can be easily considered as brands or identities in themselves. One example of a domain that I own is InstaFusion.com. This i will be selling for around $200 or so...

So it centers around the name, the spelling, the ease of pronunciation, and the market capability that name could develop for itself.

sex .com was available once too, right?
How can someone say how much CCCC.COM or whatever is worth? Same domain can be worth 0 or 100.000, depending on use of cos.
It is not possible to make an pricelist based on number of letters and extension.

    What's considered rare?
Is there any number limit when domain is considered rare?

In fact CCCC.com's are rare but that doesn't mean they are expensive.

4 letter.com have value. Keeeping few is not bad idea. you don't know when you will be lucky. Not sure about mix of character and number.
    Thx
