Side effect of the cold war is that world naval power is on a decline.

Wasnt your soldiers who trained the georgian troops for months? Why Pentagon asks Russia to return Humvees then? M16's that were captured, guess whose these toys are? :) Maybe not fully NATO standard, but the skills surely were in place, and Im that person than thinks the skills is the main thing, not the gun you are holding (that doesnt applies to nukes of course...).

The Russian Army beat the Gerogians with numerical superiority. The Georgians had only three brigades to counter the Russian Army on two fronts. At the end of the fighting, one Georgian brigade that was in Iraq was flown in without its equipment.

The Russians army revealed its shortcomings in the fighting.

    http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1010/p01s01-woeu.html

Georgia is not up to Nato standards. Most of the Georgian equipment is either surplus Soviet equipment supplied by Ukraine or Soviet euipment that was refurbished by Israeli contractors.

Russia knows it will be outmatched when Poland, Ukraine and Georgia are armed and trained to Nato standards.

The pirates still have not blown up themselves and the ship. I have a feeling that a warship will help them with their plan.

Really? Who had the numerical superiority in the beginning then, when Georgia srarted to bomb Tskhinvali & our peacekeepers? We only had around 100 peacekeepers there, and they arent equipped the same as proper troops, so they had to stay alive (in a bunker) and wait for the help. The 2,000 troops from Iraq already arrived back, but somehow Saakashvili did not send them, probably he started to think at last.

emm? they had enough equipment at home (the once we had to take away with us later;)), why would they bring it back with them? :)

    What about this:

    a) NATO, Georgia to share radars in 2007: Tbilisi | International

    b) georgian-military-radar-station-destroyed:

You posted our losses, now post georgian losses if you care ;) Here you go:

    http://en.rian.ru/world/20080915/116781976.html

"low morale of its military personnel", thats totally true, they run away, while the georgian civilians (grandma's, etc) stayed at home. One of elder person was asked later why did she stay at home when russian army was coming, she said: why do I have to be scared of russians, we were living together for centuries and can live in peace.

Poland, half of Ukraine (I corrected it, ok?) and Georgia ? You are joking, right? If you really think these 3 countries can fght back with Russia, you dont know much then about Russia. Just a manpower alone wont be enough. And you know how the russians fight, till the last one, even if we going to have only one knife (like it was in ww2)

Add to Poland, Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, the following countries United States, Japan, Germany, UK, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, and Turkey.

Russia still occupies East Prussia and the Japanese Northern Islands.

Russia is isolated and weaker than you think. The price of oil is declining every day.

My question is why did America have to bailout Russia with the pirates. It takes Russia 2weeks to respond now.

If a shipload of Vodka was highjacked, the whole Russian fleet would be on the scene.

You are in noddyland I think :D

Calling the NATO members, right?) Well, we have someone to call too, dont worry about that.

The price of oil is not important anymore, because unlike you, we didnt WASTE our money on stupid wars here and there, we have enough to survive without oil, be sure + you can apply the oil card to Saudia Arabia, thats the country that hasnt got anything else) Oh, well, a book on geography is your best friend ;)

perhaps, if America was alone it would blow up the ship? Since there are no americans there))) One folk, already suggested it here, btw :)

You really have to have a brain to blow up a ship, right?))) /sarcasm/

    Okay very funny..

Why did it take Russia so long to respond? Is the Russian Navy in that bad of shape?

Yep, I suggested it, and it's still the best course of action. You are welcome to disagree, but I backed my reason and frankly I don't suffer from the same warm fuzzy feelings as a lotta folks, so suggesting it isn't humane doesnt mean a damned thing to me.

You want "warm & fuzzy", call the Peace Corps to the scene, not the military.

It would be good practice for our ships. This could be used as warning to Russia.

The ship is Ukrainian. What's the connection to Russia? Is the cargo of tanks intended for Sudan? In that case it would teach Russia a lesson.

    Nope. And it's not.

What makes you think we'd pay it if it was $1.00? We should act in our own interest, which is what we get accused of either way... so why act otherwise? Arms headed for a place they arent supposed to go get captured by thieves who'd love to use 'em against us and we're supposed to find a warm fuzzy solution? Naah. Screw 'em. Sink the ship.
