4 Letter domains are rare since you can no longer "freshly" register them. 4 character domains with numbers are rare, but less rare since adding numbers to a domain is often less desirable to domainers (including myself).

Does that count for net extensions, too, or just com domains? I have 3 four character domains that are made up of NLLL.net, with the letter being the same each time?

    I think you all are getting 4 Character and 4 Letter domains mixed up;

All of the 4 Letter .com domains are registered and are currently worth at least $20 a piece for even non-premium letters

4 Character domains like f5t9.com are not rare and you can still register them today and any domain registrar of your choice.

I would stay away from 4 Character .net, it will take some time for these to be sold out and their value to rise. Otherwise, they are worth reg fee or less.

Yeah I was asking about 4 character domains like f5t9.com that have no meaning. I guess they aren't rare since I know a whole bunch of them that are still available :D

domain names with numbers in the 4 letter category are not even worth $10. Why would someone end up typing a number in a domain name unless it is like a brand such as 3Com, etc.

kashif78 honestly my personal opinion, if they would be worth, then they would still have not been available right!

Thank you sahir for your reply...

Actually, I recently won 2 such domains in an auction... I am quite new to domaining and can not assess their true monetary value. I have offers to sale these domains but confused about their right price. Posted in few forums for appraisal but got no good response.

Could you comments in this thread regarding listed domians value?

In a nutshell, if you do not know what you are really doing on the king of all domain extensions the .com - then you really do need to steer absolutely clear of considering any other extension at all at this stage, until you get a real grasp of the entire market.

Too many people have in the past and still continue to do so, register domains which they think are hip, are cool or have in their false perceived view, some incredible value, when in fact 99% of the time, the exact opposite is true.

Domain names and especially in this economic crisis are and never have been in the past few years, a get rich scheme.

Do not be carried away by some of the high prices that you see and then jump to the conclusion, that if I register this, or if I register that domain, I'll make an instant very high yield profit, return on investment, it simply does not work like that.

The only real people to benefit from poor domain choices are the registration companies and no-one else at all.

When you are evaluating huge lists of daily expiring domain names, one is often left in absolute amazement, how some individuals at one point thought to themselves, hey, this is the name to register, it'll make me hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, since a huge proportion of them are absolutely rubbish, with no value ever, nor any potential value at any one time, whether in a period of boom or bust.

Like any other industry, you must do a hell of a lot of research first and it is only half the battle to acquire domains, the other harder part is selling them on again afterwards, finding your ideal end user and connecting with that person or company. It is NOT as easy as many of you are led to believe, anyone telling you otherwise quite frankly and candidly, is talking out of their backside.

Read absolutely everything you can on the subject first before ever thinking about registering a domain name and when you are absolutely sick to the back teeth of researching the market after several months, to the point that you feel that your are tearing your hair out, go back and carry on reading and researching some more.

If you don't like the sound of this advice, it's cool by me, you throw this advice out entirely at your own peril, it won't cost me a cent if you take no notice, however, you throw this advice out and it cost YOU a good amount of money, which in a few months down the road, you might think to yourself, that guy back then, he actually might have had a point.

    *****

As for the chappy saying that LLLL.com's are worth $500 each, this is absolutely poppycock. Less than 5% of LLLL.com domain names are worth this amount and the chances of anyone inexperienced in this industry getting their hands on one now in the aftermarket for next to nothing to make good profit on, your chances of doing so are way less than 1%, and that is being very generous.

To reach this kind of value it would need to be all prime letters only and certainly pronounceable, if not a word in it's right. If it were a word in it's own right, it would be worth a lot more.

The chances are however that most run of the mill four letter .com domains are worth anything between $50-$125 each on average, with a massive percentage of those towards the very much lower end. Reseller, wholesale prices will be much less.

.org not worth spending the time pursuing, you'd be better off researching your market first than worrying about these kind of questions.

Stick to the .com when you are first starting out.

Stick with two word natural generic domains, which have a very natural flow to the word makeup and sequence, how it rolls off the tongue etc. Daft combinations of words will always be worth very little and you will struggle like mad to sell them. Get exceptionally picky about what makes a name very good in your view. Discard 95% of the rubbish from your selections. Don't register it straightaway, sleep on it first.

Your next step if you do not wish to sell it, is to develop that domain name into a website and further to monetise that website, even if it's only by $1.00 per day.

If you develop enough sites, with very good original, unique and useful content to the reader / visitor and make just $1.00 per day on each domain / site, and rinse and repeat, you will eventually be on to a sure found winner.

Keep it simple and use commonsense. It's ok to dream, to keep your head in the clouds, as long as your feet are firmly planted on the ground.

You can read more advice from me at TheA1Forum.com - http://TheA1Forum.com - Just ask your domaining questions over there after registering for a free account and I'll give you the lowdown, straight up, no punches pulled.

    Many thanks!

Yeah, sometimes you can come across common names that will cost you around $1000 or so dollars.
