    Symbol Of Sikhs

Sikhs founded on the teachings of Nanak and nine successive gurus in fifteenth century Northern India, is the fifth-largest organised religion in the world. This system of religious philosophy and expression has been traditionally known as the Gurmat (literally the counsel of the gurus) or the Sikh Dharma. Sikhism originated from the word Sikh, which in turn comes from the Sanskrit root śiṣya meaning "disciple" or "learner", or śikṣa meaning "instruction."

The principal belief of Sikhism is faith in Vāhigurū—represented using the sacred symbol of ēk ōaṅkār, the Universal God. Sikhism advocates the pursuit of salvation through disciplined, personal meditation on the name and message of God. A key distinctive feature of Sikhism is a non-anthropomorphic concept of God, to the extent that one can interpret God as the Universe itself. The followers of Sikhism are ordained to follow the teachings of the ten Sikh gurus, or enlightened leaders, as well as the holy scripture entitled the Gurū Granth Sāhib, which includes selected works of many devotees from diverse socio-economic and religious backgrounds. The text was decreed by Shri guru Gobind Singh, the tenth guru, as the final guru of the Khalsa Panth. Sikhism's traditions and teachings are distinctively associated with the history, society and culture of the Punjab. Adherents of Sikhism are known as Sikhs (students or disciples) and number over 23 million across the world. Most Sikhs live in the state of Punjab in India and, prior to the country's partition, millions of Sikhs lived in what is now known as the Punjab province of Pakistan.

I've never heard of anyone blowing up stuff, cutting someone's head off or executing a witch in the name of Sikhism, so I say more power to you.

It's never too late to learn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_India_Flight_182

Although in this case the motive was not religion itself but separatism.

Well I had hope for a second that not all religions spawn violent wackos. Guess I should go with my cynical gut.

its not babbar_khalsa logo , its symbol of sikh comunity they take it as a symbol , and babbar khalsa r not terrorist actaully history of them is they demands for a different country for sikhs , means they want a state of India to be particularly removed from country map and announced as diff country , so indian goven, declare them as a terrorist grop

and about sikhs they have given many dies for the country freedoms and to save girls and womens and kids of another country

Can you tell me what happened during 1980-1984?

Who was repsonsible for all those massacres and Terrorism in Punjab? Is it Indira Gandhi ?

Because I have heard some say that Bindrawala was supported by Indira Gandhi for political gains and then he became a leader of own and turned against her..

What is the real story behind it?Can you throw some light on it?

sorry to revive an old thread.
disclaimer: I'm not against the Indian government! I don't have a preference. I live in California, but I must say it was horrible to its citizens (especially Sikhs - 1984+ and other minorities).

no they are not. their origins are from Punjab.

he actually never really did any of that stuff. it's a conspiracy by the Indian government (which encouraged the anti-sikh riots). Sikhs were alienated from their own motherland, so I wouldn't really call it his motherland. he wanted to create his own land for the sikhs, but Indira Gandhi didn't want that to happen because Punjab was the richest state in India at the time. he didn't preach any hatred toward any people, only the corruption of the government. also he didn't do any bombings. Indira Gandhi attacked Bhindranwale for support from her voters. there would have been a peaceful resolution, but she canceled the meeting (not sure if it was a meeting of forum, but it was something similar) because she was scared that she would lose support from her followers.
