Windows 7 PreBetas Coming Out in Late October: Official name .....Windows 7!!

The prebetas of the next windows will be released in the PDC in late October. But the weirdest thing is, that for the first time, the official version is getting its codename as the official name! Read the news here.

When the full version will be released, the OS will be requiring 4GB of ram and 20GB+ of hd space. Most probably the full version is going to be released around September 2010.

What do you guys think? Although Vista coulnot meet expectatios, and was heavily criticized in some aspects, i do expect that Microsoft will cope up with Windows 7.

    Here is a screeshot:

Nice, I have Vista ultimate on my machine an I had the beta an loved it. I am OS neutral an have 4 comps running a varity of OS's in dual boot and inside VM's And 7 sounds like it might be prity decent.

4GB RAM + 20GB hard drive space is insane. Since I'm using Vista currently, I will definitely not change to another MS OS because Vista is already causing me a lot of problems.

Vista was slated to be the last Microsoft OS to have a x32 release by then ALL new computers sold should be X64 compatible, with around the 4gb of ram mark.

Oh an Vista wasn't the problem when it was released it was the OEM's and the software vendors who didn't even with the 2 year warnings an the year an a half of betas bother to make there products compatible with vista. I wish people would shut the hell up about the bad points of vista an get used to the fact that XP reached end of life an was replaced by a new OS, the same happend when XP came out it was called for all kinds of crap much like vista is now. Most if not all the noise being made about Vista is from the non techie crowd who spit there dummies because they cant adapt or down right refuse too.

This is insane, i hope this time they will learn from their mistake, and wont make a giant Ram eating machine.
but i heard they had plan to release it later in 2010. Lets see what comes out. Screen shot looks like Vista though.

Looks almost identical to Vista Ultimates welcoming center.

The only real difference I know of it should support touch screen monitors. Not sure what more special they will offer.

yup its sometimes true that we get so accustomed to our current OS that we tend to defame new releases. However i should still claim that vista did not meet expectations, apart from having a really cool look.

The looks seem to be the same in windows 7. hope other specifications will get better.

Well a 20gb+ hd space requiremet doesnot seem to be too high to me, since at the time of the final release (end of 2010) this will be pretty common.

I think it should be good. I'm still a Mac fan though and I can't wait for Snow Leopard release, it will be good. :)

Using XP Professional & Vista Home Premium and love them both.
Not sure why people are having problems with Vista when I don't.

It looks heavily like vista to me too.... so much for microsoft not releasing as many OS's... i'm another happy xp user... and as for the minimum specs needed to run it... i'm pretty sure every run of the mill user doesn't have those kind of specs just for an OS...

This is a alpha build that is why it looks like vista, they work on the back end of the OS before they work on the GUI front end. There is screen shots out there of Visa when it was in it's alpha phaze and it looked like XP.

I think what most people don't realise is software has to change not just hardware as dictated by mores law, the amount of microprocessors that can fit on a bit of silicon will double every 18 months this requires the hardware to be changed. A chip from say 8 years ago will be a 16 an 32 bit compatible an chips from today are 32 an 64 bit compatible, this is why for the most part your windows 2000 rig that's sitting in your cupboard isn't going to be able to run vista.

The is a risk of stagnation if the software dosent keep up which is what was showed with vista OEM's and Software vendors didn't want to learn to program for the new OS and start making moves to program for a X64 future. As I said before XP is for some people the ONLY OS they have known and refuse to adapt well tough we move forward, we adapt we change. If it wasnt for the adoption of computers in places other than Millitery and scientific establishments we would not be having this conversation right now this was caused my a change in peoples mind set. Computers for ordinary people is one thing but just the one architecture of the rest of time is flawed, and that is what most fail to understand.

My Vista Ultimate is pretty cool and a lot faster then XP Pro. The thing I dislike is the way opening folders sort of makes me feel trapped inside. Not unlike a website using frames. Other than that I have no problems with Vista.

Anyone know if Windows 7 will actually use the database storage system that Vista was to have?
