I found a 2 character .com thats not registered? Is the public able to buy them? Through who?

Everyone says "invalid domain name" if its under 3 char.

And yes, I checked it through enom, internic and others. It all shows that its not registered to anyone.

I think domain Registars don't allow CC.COM's simply because they don't exist anymore. All CC's are taken long, long ago and you probably got wrong info from whois or wherever you checked.

you might not be able to register any 2 letter .com domain from most registrars as they do not have a provision for registering 2 letter domain names..also, most of the 2 letter domain names are reserved by the registry themselves..

Yeah, I believe its reserved by the registry. There's definately no owner or no registrant coming up for it. I did a little research and I think that the ones that may drop off are claimed by the registry.

Other than not being able to register a 2 leter domain, why would any domain names be "invalid domain name"? I have a .com, .net, .info, ... domain name and I want to also get it in .US. I submit the domain name ____.US and in some registrars, it says it's not available, then I did a whois and it shows that there is no records.

    WHOIS_________________________________
    Not found: somedomainname.us

    >>>> Whois database was last updated on: Tue Nov 25 18:30:38 GMT 2008 <<<<
NOTE: FAILURE TO LOCATE A RECORD IN THE WHOIS DATABASE IS NOT INDICATIVE
OF THE AVAILABILITY OF A DOMAIN NAME.
    _______________________________________

In godaddy, it says it's an "invalid domain name".

Can anyone tell me what "invalid domain name" means? and why it's not available?

    Thank you!!

I think that they do not allow us to register a 2 character domain name.

I remember when a couple of years ago I found a 2 letter domain name available. I was seeing the big $$! When I tried to register it with several domain registrars none was letting me to register it. I was trying the whole weekend to find a domain registrar that would allow me to buy it. Finally I found a company. I paid them the money. I thought the domain name was mine! The next day I got a message from the registrar that was saying "Invalid domain name. We cannot register it"....

Dont let this happen to you.

Well.. I don't think we can register it, as I never saw somewhere to do it.. but still there exist sites like: http://www.xe.com/
    And http://x.com/ (from paypal)

So maybe there must be something...

He means they are all taken by the F.E. .com ICANN thingie.. or maybe by registration companies (dynadot, godaddy)

But when they are dropped, ICANN will probably just hold them and won't sell them anymore...

I think that is what he telling ;)

Different TLD's have different regulations regarding short names.

There are 2 char .ws and .tv domains available for $1000/yr and 1 letter .ws for $50K per year.
