Using one keyword instead of multiple for an adgroup

    Hey there

I'm somewhere in the middle of my learning process for using AdWords for affiliate stuff and an idea popped into me head.

What if I focus an adgroup on a single, very competitive keyword. I am very confident with my web design skills so it occurred to me that if I target all of my focus on one keyword I might be very successful with a high quality score. My ad will be specifically designed for that keyword and my landing page will be as well.

Do people do this? Is there something I'm missing? Just hoping someone would shed some light.

    Any feedback appreciated

I would only do that if you know you have a winning keyword. You need to test lots of keywords to find a winner, then when you have found a winner do exactly as you describe below. It would be a shame to do all that work and it's a keyword that is not profitable.

I agree it's too much work, and there are very few keywords that worth it. Plus it can make your account look really cluttered.

If it's a new account, you'll bog it down pretty quick. Some people swear by this and others just go with 25ish max per adgroup.
